What knife did I buy?

#1

Post by Metro »

Well, I purchased my first Spyderco on Saturday and am wondering which knife I bought. I got the knife at a local gun show here in Austin, TX and the knife was used but in perfect condition. It looks exactly like a Calypso Jr and has a regular blade on it (not serrated). It appears to have either a G-10 or Micarta handle on it and the blade is AUS-8. It also has a number stamped into the blade and the guy I bought the knife from said that this was a kind of demo run for this exact style of knife and that is why the number is stamped in the blade. The number on the blade is 046V. If anyone can help me out with the information about which knife I have it would be greatly appreciated.

Before there was the Calypso Jr. Lightweight, there was the Calypso Jr.. Micarta handle, AUS-8 blade. Sounds like that's what you have. A good knife, now discontinued.

Hi Chris,

Welcome to the forum. It sounds like the knife you have is one of the original calypso jr's. They first came out with micarta scales and AUS-8 steel. The number on the blade means that it was one of the first models produced. The first 200 of each model go to collector club members. I think that the "V" after the # means that it is a variation from the original.(plain edge instead of a sypderedge.)
Hope this helps.

dsvirsky and Bruceter,

Thanks for the quick reply. I thought it was kind of interesting that the knife had the number stamped in the blade. I've been looking at Spyderco's for a while and had never seen one with a number stamped in it. I appreciate the information.
