Saturday Picture Show:BRG ZDP-189 Delica4

#1

Post by jaislandboy »

Hello folks, I recently snagged a British Racing Green PE Delica4.....this solid ZDP189 blade is Da Bomb! I honestly haven't put in to a cutting test between the VG10 steel.....but then again that's what Meat Tests are for, right Doc Snubnose? The ZDP189 blade is (of course), scaary sharp..... ;)
Cudos to Spyderco for raising the bar on the venerated Delica!
I'd love to one day see this solid ZDP189 in a full flat grind configuration on the D4.....so until then, I guess I'll have to wait for the CF Caly3!
Here are some comparison shots with my Black Delica4 and my G10 Meadowlark....

thanks, guys...
After getting some decent sleep, and being able to play with my latest :spyder: -tool, I am truly amazed by this coolest of colors ZDP Delica4!
Yeah, Clovisc, the solid ZDP189 blade is a thing of beauty! the sprint run Blue-handled version of the D4 we see on fleabay (with all that nasty price gouging  )was the 1st solid zdp189 offering...
IMHO, from an aesthetic standpoint, the Solid is Much more appealing than the Laminated 420J version of the steel offered in the JessHorn and Burgundy Calypso Jr....
I personally feel this BRG ZDP189 D4 is the new standard in :spyder: -goodness at its price point, just like I feel that the byrd G10 Meadowlark is the Standard of quality in a folding knife at its pricepoint....
Thus, I took the photos of the BRG D4 with the G10 Meadowlark...
Here's my CallyJr....

Thanks for the pictures,Brian!

If this is the real British Racing Green on the Delica, I've to say it's ...... a little bit dark for Brtish Racing Green :(

Peter, the BRG color in my photos is indeed darker than the actual appearance of the FRN....my indoor lighting setup is suboptimal.... :o
I'll try shooting some photos outside in the sunlight tomorrow...weather permitting......so that the color will be more "genuine".... ;)

Is it just the lighting or is the ZDP-189 significantly warmer in color than the VG-10?

Dedguy, if you're asking about the difference in color of the steel, it is just the lighting....the "satin" finish of all the D4 versions are identical.....regardless of the steel...

I think it is just the flash or light reflecting off of one and not the other.

The pic on new graham's website shows the BRG as an actual green, I'm sure it's rather hard to capture that color.

Loved my ZDP-189 PE Delica in Periwinkle, but I prefer a SE blade for my work EDC. As such I am now enjoying my BRG ZDP-189 SE Delica.
