my brother and i have been playing some chess lately, and he starts to take a liking to it
now he wants to buy a chess-game for the PC.
which ones are the best that you recommend?
thanks,
denn
good chess game/simulator?
The best one I've played is this old game called "Battle Chess". It ran on our old computer on DOS actually. It was great, the "3D" board had actual figures of kings, queens, knights and castles. Also, when you killed someone on the board, there was an actual battle, sometimes they got pretty graphic.
As for new games, I really don't know. I actually prefer playing on an actual board if I can.

yeah, i remember battle chess alright, and battle chess 2
but he's more looking for a 'serious' game/simulator.
somewhere deep in my memory i seem to recall a chess-game calles Psion, or something, that seemed pretty professional in those days (circa 1989). is that series still worthwhile or are there better games?
edit:done some searching. i found these 3:
- chessmaster
- fritz
- hoyle majestic
anyone know these and if they're any good for serious professional 'chessing'?

I've used a few different versions of Chessmaster and one version of Fritz. Overall, I liked Chessmaster better, but for the life of me, I can't remember why. I've been running Linux for awhile now, so I haven't used Chessmaster or Fritz recently. I've got an older version of Chessmaster that I'm not using anymore, if anyone wants it.
