Leatherman Charge Ti
Leatherman Charge Ti
I am looking into getting a multi tool and the Leatherman Charge Ti looks like a pretty good choice based on reviews online, but I was just wondering if anyone here had one or used one because I am skeptical to buy something like this without handling it first. Also if you could recommend a different multi tool you own and like as I am looking for the top of the line multi tool as far as quality construction and ergonomics. Thanks
Given that nothing is perfect , it's the best multitool I've ever owned ( I've packed a multi since 1982 ) . The other one to consider is the Swisstool spirit , well made , no one handed opening , nice flat profile . Gerber sucks , I've had bad luck with SOG . The plain wave is OK too , just prefer the Charge , better ergo's , more comfort .

I agree with Chris, I've owned most every pocket tool out there (sold, gave away or lost most of them and still own 15 different PTs including buck, gerber, other Leatherman(5), Swisstool etc ), the Charge (I chose the xTi) is by far the best I've owned. Personally I wouldn't even look at anything other than those two (and it took me a while to decide between them). One hand opening, plain and serrated locking blades (plain being decent steel - unusual for a PT), pocket clip, easy - smooth operation. Great tool.

Yeah...Gerbers really suck
I'll have to look at this Charge Ti...I STILL carry my original SuperTool which must be at least 12 years old...I saved for a few weeks to buy that as a youngin' so it would assist me in fishing...over a decade later, I still take it with me. Essentially I am pointing this out in that Leatherman makes good stuff that will last :D

LM Charge Ti = great multi-tool
i got the exact LM
before that i owned some Vic's, a LM SideClip, a LM Wave and now the Charge Ti.
it IS without a doubt THE best multi i've ever used
there's three caveats IMO though:
- even though it got titanium handles, it's still basically the same weight as a Wave (relat. heavy)
- it's got a clip, which is great, but it's just ONE clip on ONE handle, so it doesn't clip that secure and upright
- the new-style scissors don't really feel like an improvement to me. i liked the one on the Wave better
but, here's the pro's of the thing, and the reasons you should get it:
- one handed opening and closing on both blades
- one handed swing-opening (balisong-style) is possible too
- choice of carrying it with the pocket-clip, steel lannyard ring, or belt-sheath (i got the nylon sheath with the extra bits, but i always clip it to my pocket using the clip)
- quality 154cm steel clip-point blade
- serrated blade with plenty of bite (even though i regrinded mine to a PE......)
- improved plier-grip and plier-force
- improved wire-cutters
- great coarse and fine (diamond) file
- great woodsaw (better than Victorinox.that means something!)
- improved can-opener, works like a charm
- bit-holder for various bits
- miniature-bit holder for various miniature bits
- ALL features lock. both blades and the saw and file on the outside use dependable liner-locks. the other bits and tools lock by means of a steel bar. disengaging the bar-locks is done by pushing the push-button on the handle
- clip can be removeda and replaced by a steel lanyard holder as well
- it's the best engineered LM to date
good enough for ya? :)

It's the best of the best, bar none. I used to prefer my SOG paratool but after using my Charge XTi on strike duty in New York, it's been my favorite. Real hevay duty and use. Never had to carry another tool other than a meter!
Best of luck,

I haven't found any I like better than SOD Powerlock. I have beat mine mercilessly and it just smiles and asks for more.

But Wait !!!!!!!
I too, love the Charge Ti. I also happen to sell them in my store. I got word late last month that the Charge Ti has been disco'ed. The new Charge line is coming out in January and it makes me very happy, cause I love CPMS30V!
The Charge Tii will have a plain blade of CPMS30V instead of the old 154 cm. What a great improvement. Still has the same tools included, and handles are still Titanium.
Don't know if the price is going up or not, but I'll post when I find that out. Worth waiting for!!!

hmm, that's not enough for me to go buy the 'new and improved' one. maybe if they get 40 grams off the weight and put a double-clip on it, them maybe...........
Info from another forum on the Charge updates apparently from LM's Customer Service:JspyEDC wrote:I too, love the Charge Ti. I also happen to sell them in my store. The Charge Ti will be replaced by the Charge AL.* It will have aluminum scales and retain the same tools.
The Charge XTi will be replaced by the Charge ALX.* It will have aluminum scales and retain the same tools.
A combination of the Charge Ti and the XTi will be called the Charge TTi.* It will still have the titanium scales and will have tools from both the orignal models.
