22, as Sal said this is one of the first run Taiwan models, I think my preference is to have one of the now extinct US models, but alas this was the one that was available.224477 wrote:SpyderWrench was made in Taiwan  ???
I never knew that.
Looks like your in luck, did Sal say more Taiwan runs and a Byrd flavor in the future?fellyjr wrote:Hopefully "KNOT"
I've seen several folks that have included the  note with their comments on the use of AUS-8 steel.JD Spydo wrote:...had 440C blade steel on the knife blade. I see yours has AUS-8  ? Gee was that an older model? Recent model?
Again, it seems this is one of the latest runs, so recent would be the answer that question.
edit- looks like yablanowitz and I were composing at the same time, sorry.
Thanks Brian, it captured what I really wanted all to see]She made me buy dinner anywayjaislandboy wrote:nice Photo...

I hope everyone has had something to be thankful for on this, our day of thanksgiving. I know I have...

I am using my AUS-8 Spyderench as EDC knife for last 6 month or so. It does the job. My kids do ice hockey, so use the knife to adjust equipment for 2 hockey teams :)
Here some things that could be better:
1. That plastic thing that holds bits loooks like it not belong here. I am always worried - what if it fellls off.
2. When you put bits into the hole - they will fell of unless you hold them.
3. Somebody here mentioned closing the knife with one hand - can you please teach me?
4. Closing the knife when you separated it from the rench part is somewhat unsafe.
5. When you extended the knife into a long scredriver, it is not secure enaugh in that position - smal amount of preasure will fold it back -that lock is not holding.
But those all are wishies of a spoiled kid. It is great knife overall, has more than enaugh for everyday needs, and it made me a beleiver in everyday knife carry.

I've carried my SpydeRench every day for 5 years. Broke the tip in the first year using it as a prybar. filed it off. Lost it twice. Found it once, and once had to buy pizza for bunch of mechanics that had found it. Ransom was $72. Painted it green once by accident. Got a bunch of welding dingleberries on it from holding metal while tacking. Filed them off with the diamond file. I've sharpened it so many times, it's almost not serrated anymore. It's become a companion and I'll keep it with me everyday til they finally come out with the new one that they say is coming soon. Hurry up Sal, I'm getting old and my SpydeRench is getting tired. Later Don
Kinda sounds like my dad's 'rench. He used it every day working at an amusment park in Houston, working on the rides and machines. The serrations are about gone, the tip has been broken and the knife needs some lovin'...but he still carries it.dolang wrote:I've carried my SpydeRench every day for 5 years.
