goodwill giveaway

#1

Post by denn »

as you may have noticed in my last couple of threads i've been kind of insensitive and crude and seemed like a troll.

due to circumstances i haven't been around much on this forum for the last couple of years, and have only recently joined the spyderco-madness again

to show some good will and to prove i'm not a troll, i'm organizing a little give-away.

there's two choices, pick one, a police and a delica, both plain edges with a custom sharpened flat V-grind.

blade will be send free of charge by registered airmail worldwide

post your reason here for why you should get one of these here, and the responder with the most original reason or who seems to deserve it most will get it.....

let the game begin :D

yours truly,
denn

but. there's a small catch, these things don't come cheap and i'm kind of attached to these knives, and i'm kind of on the lookout for a cheap freebie knife or gadget in return, that'd be....well.....nice.
i'm into knives, spyderco is #1 ofcourse, but otherbrands i like too, no matter. after all, i'm a knife-nut :) . i also dig wrist-watches and flashlights
now, here it comes: the one who offers the nicest return-gift in this thread, gets one of these knives (pick 1) send free by registered airmail worldwide, and then can send me back a nice return-gift
yours truly,
denn

woops!, my bad.

i honestly didn't intend to post this as an "i'll trade you this for this" kind of post, scouts' honor.

i have edited my post to conform to spyderco forum-regulations

Since your original intentions were to trade and not give away, I want none of this. I don't know you nor you me, but it does say something if you change your lil' "contest" to a give away from a trade.
My point is that it's not really a goodwill giveaway when your first intentions were a trade.

it was and is intended as a goodwill giveaway. yes, my initial idea was that it'd be nice to receive some kind of a cheap "thank you gadget" as a souvenir to display on my table, but i was not out for a 1-on-1 trade. besides, if you had read the posts better, you would have noticed that i switched from a good-deal-trade-for-you-guys to a just-giving-it-away because i was pointed out by Zenheretic that sales and trade-posts were not allowed on the forum, and had forgotten all about that (i'm used to the sales-corner section of blade- and knife-forums)

maybe even a thank you-note on the forum would be nice, geez, don't be such a downer, you must really dislike me, don't you?. i'm TRYING to restore my rep on this forum, that's all....... :(

Denn, why are you trying so hard to get respect? (here, of all places...)

I would suggest laying low and posting only when your post contributes to a thread; that means thinking about what you are saying. There is no shortcut to earning respect.

Regardless of original intent, a giveaway shows good intent and I think we should cut the guy some slack. There are plenty of people here with prickly personalities who are accepted because of the content of their posts. Also, if he has recognized something within that he is trying to change, I think a short suspension of assumptions may help.

OK. Folding up my Port-O-Pulpit and hiding it in the back of my closet...

I don't need a new blade so I would ask that you gift it to someone you meet in your travels who really needs a good blade and could not otherwise afford one. You may even need to have it on hand for that chance meeting...

Gee denn, poor guy.

Usually, when someone does a Givaway, there is a ton of mails........

As for me, What I know of you is that you are only impulsive and colorful, just like a lot of people here.....

I'll be the first:

I would really like a PE Police because I love long blades, never tried SS handles, They are sooooo expensive this side of the border..... and I have, poor me, to buy a Surefire in the next couple of weeks.
Also, I am beginning to think that Police is what is giving you the bad Karma you are living in. Send it this side of the Border and I will wash it with our special virgin spring water from the north and it will become the knife that brings joy to whoever hold it.
people will form a line in front of my house just to have a glare at it. No, I will not charge anything, because I want that knife to know that it has a mission . A mission to bring joy and happiness to whoever asks for it.....

That is why I need that knife: Bring joy to the world, helped by our spring water. And if you ask, yes, I can put a spoonful or two of Tang in it...

Take care,

Simon

Oh there is a shortcut. Get some and you will see :)

As for the Denn: as anyone else seems he doesn't want a thing given for free :D (where I live, it is something unimaginable :D , ask Jano (224477) how Commies managed to alter human characters :( in our (once united) countries )) I will sacrifice and take the Police :D

Now, seriously, if you have some (either emotional or other) connection with these knives, keep them. Memories and experience can become much more valuable than anything else later...

BTW Thanks for the contest :D Image

Ok - I'll bite :) I would like to get the PE Police just so I can forward it to Simon :D I think I'm one of the ones that talked him into the SureFire.... :) AND more important - hopefully - it'll clear customs without a hitch :) Yes, it does bring joy to one who holds one.....

Oh Youuu (insert blushing Icon)

Yes, you were the one who made me decide I needed a Surefire..... And If you get it, I'll send you a bottle of our virgin water (available in a colorfull rainbow of taste) and then, you'll be able to dip the Police in it and know what living in bliss really is :D

Simon

Oh, I forgot to thank you, denn for the contest. You could have just pulled it off from the start, but you decided to play the game. Really honorable of you...

we have a lot in common my contests have never gone as expected. I had one more at about 13 people deserving and wonderful people. But still not for in many sign up. I have become a tyrant. When buttons have been pushed on this forum. I have felt like a troll or like I might have my card pulled at times. I feel for you and wish your contest a rebirth.

I would like the police, not "primarily" because it is clearly the more value choice but because it fits my hand and interests better. One of the knives that introduced me to spyderco was an old hardly dulled serrated stainless steel police model and that a man from the past I have put behind was using to harvest illicit crops this along with the fact that the first spyderco ever saw was a civilian [actually owned by a fairly admire of spyderco's] will give you an idea of the environment.

While I am by no means short on edge tools. I had a fairly small collection by fanatic standards a customized vintage model police would definitely be a valued addition to my collection. I am also a believer in getting as much edge in the handle is possible. This knife typifies that philosophy that is about all I have to say. Good luck and good karma.

Couldn't have put things better myself. So, in the spirit of the thread here is my reason for giving my prize (should I win) to someone else:

There are people out there who chose to spend their money on other things or needs than what they consider "expensive" knives. I myself don't have a flat ground Police, but like the idea of the flat ground splinter picker. Like Sean, I also don't need another knife, but I am sure you will find someone who you can gift one to in my name providing I win this contest. It should be someone who respects knives, and appreciates the quality of a good tool. It should go to someone who will use it, but also use it wisely. Since it is coming upon Christmas time, now will be an excellent time for such a gift. And, such a gift will be not only be representative of you and myself, but also Spyderco and the knife industry at large.

Thanks for the contest denn, and I am sorry, but with the holidays I just haven't taken the opportunity to read the controversial post over which you seek commiseration. I do agree with what I perceive as the "spirit of" the good Count's post. Sometimes we try so hard that we just make things worse and/or just make them worse in our minds. At those times it is often good to just "step back" after writing a post and ask oneself "is this really going to be constructive to the topic at hand".
First they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not stand up, because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Since I already have a Standard (similar to a Delica) and a stainless Cara Cara (similar enough to a Police to satisfy me) I'll pass on the contest in favor of other members. Nice offer tho.

I must've missed all those posts and threads that had made such reputation for you. As trolls are certainly not welcome, I respect your attempt to restore your reputation in the way you see feasible.

While I currently don't have neither Delica, nor Police and my wish list of spyders is ever long, I can certainly do without these and will forgo this chance for the benefit of the other members.

Thanks for the contest.

If you were a bit trollish, at least you learned. Your latest posts are very reasonable.

I'd love to get a police for my collection, but I couldn't carry it (too large), so I'm just going to give a lame reason:

I just bought a 96 ford crown victioria that was a police car. The police would be a perfect match for it :D

Thanks for contest, but I'll pass...not because of recent events cause I own both of those great knives and want to give other forum members a chance to win and own one....

Just a thought: Maybe you would rather send one to M. Janich, since you don't like his choice of knife carry anyway... :p (Just kidding...only funning with you) Nice offer though thanks for thinking of us....Doc :D
