Standard input

Hi all,

Found out that the Lil temp just wasn't for me so it's going back to SFO, but in true style I figured the money should still be spent on :spyder: products, so I ordered a Caly 3 and g10 Meadowlark the other day, but this was still short of the lil temp cost....

I just impulsively picked up a Spydie edge standard off Ebay, g10 handles, I think it's model co6gs, but I'm not sure. It sounded good to me, but I know nothing about it, so I'd really appreciate it if anyone could give me specs or reviews!

Ahh, three Spyders to look forward to next week, now that's a good week!!!

Thanks
Roger

Rog, If you've ever held a Worker, Hunter, or Harpy, then you've have a good idea how a Standard will feel in your hand, as they all share the same basic handle shape. The only differences are the blade shape and, in most cases the handle material, although the G10 Harpy handle is identical to that of the G10 Standard. The Standard blade is very similar to (and the fore-runner of) the Delica, the hump is just a bit lower.

I believe there are two versions of the G10 Standard, the early ones are unlined and the later have a single steel liner. While the unlined version is nice and light, as with all unlined G10 Spydercos the clip screws have a reputation for stripping the threads out of the G10. The single liner was added to address this issue.

Thanks, I thought the blade looked Delica-esque. Hmm, I'm kind of excited, Delica sized with G10 (I love :spyder: G10!)

I'll let you know about the liner when I get the knife.

That's probably the best way to think of it. It is basically a G-10 Delica.

I don't remember what I was expecting but the Standard was a very pleasant surprise to me. The first time I held one it seemed "just right". I even had to show my wife, "hey honey look at this one, now don't you think this is cool?". She didn't but that's not important. I love mine and had to get another as a spare. Then a plain edge one, just because. The name "Standard" does not do it justice.

The Standard is a good knife, I have a Standard Economy that's over 20 years old, been an EDC item for years. No rust, no blade play, except for a few scratches it's in good shape.

Ditto that. If my wifey looks at a new knife I show her for 4 seconds I consider it a hit, 3 seconds it's mildly interesting, 2 seconds not so interesting, 1 second I should hide it, 1 millisecond I should run!

That's hilarious! Usually I show my girlfriend and she smiles, nods, and I know it's time to put it away out of sight somewhere (except for the cricket, that got some oohs and aaahhhs!!)

I bought a G10 Standard a while ago. Despite the fact that I very much liked the knife, it developped play in all directions after a few cuttings. So I guess I didn't get very lucky with mine :(

Congrats on your new fine knife, I know you'll like it. Sometimes I wish they bring back the Standard, even as a short run in full flat grind ZDP-189, ply peel CF handles, wireclip a la UKPK, open construction and compression lock

Just got my Standard, and I'm impressed :D Great little knife, a lot like a Delica, but it fits my hands a little better and I like the G10 a lot more the frn. I love it when I feel I got a lot of knife for my money :p

Oh, and tech a billy, showed my girlfriend, and she wasn't all the awed either. Her one comment was that it was "hard for her to open...." Women....

Congrats. I knew you'd like it. Nice and solid yet light. A "can do" knife, right?
whatever that means...

Not sure what that means either, but it's just about spot on! Especially with the serrations. I get the feeling this little knife can perform at a level well above what it should do. This knife just feels right, think I found myself a partner :p
