Street Beat Sheath Question

#1

Post by Mike Sastre »

First off, the factory sheath that came with the Street Beats I have is just fine - Spyderco does a much better job than most. That being said, there will always be those who want a different level of execution, or a more specialized sheath. That's where the custom makers like myself and others come into play. I've got a rare small window to maybe make a few (10-20) Drawpoint sheaths ahead to beat the Christmas rush, so would like to see what percentage of you would want the these set up to be compatible with the mini-TekLok that comes with the factory sheath. I normally like as few holes as possible in a sheath, so therefore only do this by request, but a lot of you like the TekLoks and I would want to make enough. I'm posting a picture of the Street Beat Drawpoint in 3 configurations. The one in the middle has the extra hole for the mini-TekLok. Give me an idea of the numbers. Thanks!!

I must admit that Mike makes the best drawpoint sheaths I've ever used.

(And probably the nicest looking :p )

Hey Mike, I'm thinking about going from a Tek-lok fastener to a type of "G" hook fastener. I'm sure you (as well as others) have some thoughts on the subject. Care to share?

The Tek-lok seems like an "OK" compromise, but is really bulky, especially on a little sheath like for the Street Beat. On the Streat Beat the Tek-lok is about half the size of the sheath. Too big IMO.

Seems like a G clip offers a lot of options (even beltless shorts or sweats).

I'd rather have a G (or J) over a Tek-lok any day....guess that answers Mike's question too.

The Drawpoints come with the "G" clip and IWB loop as standard. I like the "G"s because you can use 'em beltless with sweats and running shorts as well as OTB - can't do that with a TekLok. Question was should the sheath also support using the factory sheath's TekLok if the user wanted. My thinking is that there is no need as you can use the factory sheath if you need the TekLok.

Sal,

Going to a "G" clip seems like a good idea to me, especially on the smaller blades. Most people don't need to carry every which way, but they do need to be able to adjust to different clothing styles and still carry. That's my $.02.

I don't even have mine yet, and I already know I don't want the Tek-Lok.

I very much dislike Tek-Loks. They're great, just not for me.

I like to keep my knives close to my body, and Tek-Loks make the whole ensemble stick out too far. The G-clip keeps the knife closer and more discrete.

I'd be up for a G clip sheath for sure. Just need some extra cash first :o

Hi Mike - Excellent idea and a fine gesture to get on this forum with an offer like this.
I certainly would like to have one. Let me order one with the extra mini TekLock hole please. I also like the CF patterned material best. That would be my preferred model / type.

Please inform me about the price and the available payment methods, CC, PayPal what else?

Thank again and my order is final.
Jurphaas.

Mike - I will order one without the Tek-lok hole. Please advise how and when and consider it a done deal. The combo of inside the pant & the G hook carry options would be perfect. Thanks for the offer.

The Forum is not the place for taking orders, and that was not my intent - only to get an idea of the percentage that might want the sheath to support the mini-TekLok, so I could get the numbers close when I run a batch this weekend. Seems like most don't need the sheath set up to accept the mini-TekLok, but I will set a few that way (at least one in CF), or leave a couple "blanks" unfinished for those that want them. Ordering info - call or email.

Sal,

Another of my thoughts on your moving to a "G" clip would be to have the factory sheath still support the TekLok for those users who would still want that option. No matter what you do, there's always somone who wants it different, so it'd be a good idea for the factory sheath to accomodate them. As a custom maker, I can do things on a case by case basis - production has to cover a wider range of desires.

Greetins All!
I got one of Mike's sheaths for my Street Beat. I was not sure if it was going to be a whole lot better than the factory sheath. The factory shath was perfectly serviceable. The River City sheath is absolutly SPECTACULAR!!!
It ridess closer to the body. There is no rattle at all. It is super secure and easy to draw at the same time.
I am going to get Mike to make a rig for my Ronin too! Mike, If you can post pics of the Roin sheath please do!
Thanks Mike for a great rig!
Thanks Sal for a great Knife!
Thanks Fred for a great design!

Looks and sounds like an excellent sheath option. Count me in for one.
