That's what playing cards in the spokes are for :D

Exactly what made me ask in the first place. Would need to try before I buy !

You should hear my bike - dang freewheel sounds like cards in the spokes, without having to put cards in the spokes :D And if I carry enough bear bells ... and a train whistle...

but seriously, I may reconsider the whole mtn bike thing (at least when the view is short like on single-track or forested areas).... or need to find a riding partner who I can outsprint :D

DogRun-

Have you shot a 44 mag (or 357 mag)?

I shoot an 8" Virginia Dragoon, single action, 44 mag. It is a big heavy gun but that weight helps to soak up some of the recoil. I have a hunting holster that fits across my chest with the gun riding on my side under my arm. It is a cross-draw arrangement.

A .357 mag is good in that you can get comfortable with it shooting .38 spcl ammo in it. The Ruger Security Six is a very nice .357 mag revolver.

hi d.g.g.
Both - Ruger GP100 in .357 and Redhawk in .44mag (prob the 5" model).

They belonged to a friend, I couldn't tell you what he had loaded in 'em. I thought they were manageable, but did not shoot either very much. It was some time ago.

Most of my handgun experience is with a Glock 23 (.40 SW). I don't mind an excuse to buy another gun, but as you say, it would be silly to buy something I couldn't tolerate practicing with. I'm going to try to arrange some shooting before I decide what to do.

thanks for your advice

I think your experience with the 23 with .40 S&W would be more than adequate. I would imagine you can get off multiple shots very quickly. Great gun.

How's the 40 compare with the 357 sig auto round just out of curiousity and speaking of 357's.

While I can't comment on its effectiveness against bears, I'm pretty sure a 40 will work well enough on a poodle. Anyone care to try?

Ohh, I've got my permit down here. Just that we don't have any bears. Except koalas.

Well, I checked out the gallery... I searched every link trying to find a better picture of the young lady shown on the gallery main page. She seems a fine lass. (or my translation... a fine 'lil '***). Ooops, did I just say that?

Yes, with a license, you can own a firearm and keep it at your house. Since I've just turned 18, I'm now getting my cat H license, which allows me to use, own and store handguns. As opposed to a permit, which allows only the use of firearms. For some reason, I'm technically not allowed to buy or own ammunition with a permit, but everyone ignores that provision. Maybe in a little while I'll move on and get my high-calibre permit for IPSC. Storage can be in a safe or a display cabinet that fulfils certain criteria regarding weight, locks, and materials.

Sorry, don't know her :p Judging by the gear, that'd be E range (IPSC and related), and that picture might be from some time ago, since we've redone the place a bit since then.

Well...
The police only check on you if you own a firearm. As I am still on my permit, I don't own a firearm at the moment.
They have no reason to check on me at my house (heck, I don't even drink).
Never seen a policeman at the club. If they did find me with ammunition, it's a simple case of borrowing it for use (reason for borrowing is evident).

So I don't know what will happen, but since I only have air pistol pellets at the moment, probably very little. And the chances of this happening are very slim anyway. They've got better things to do.

Sorry Poodle.. Have to call you out on this one. I think it is somewhat bad form to knock on someone because their country's laws aren't as pro-gun as ours (yes, we're generally lucky). Doing it once is bad enough, however you keep writing back to him almost rubbing it in his face?

Did Th232 do something to royally piss you off? I don't know either of you or your histories, but thats' how you're coming across. Just my two sense. Lets all just get along :)

Well, note the answers:
Can we own guns: Yes
Can I use firearms: Yes
Can I own firearms: In a few months (after I get my license)
Can I own handguns: In a few months
Can I store them at my house: In a few months

Ok, I'll be generous:
Do we have a heck of a lot of hoops to jump through: Yes

Happy?

Cripes Poodle stop busting his balls. Why even participate in this forum if all you are going to do is spam 1 sentence posts of dubious merit? Go back under your bridge.

Th232 - nice looking shooting club. Wish I had one nearby because of the associated shooting events that clubs usually sponser. Of course I am lucky in that there is a outdoor range at the Wildlife Management Area just 15 minutes up the road. 5 dollar parking fee and I have access to a 100 yard range to shoot at from 9am - 5pm.
