Lovin' my new Byrd
Got a Cara Cara FRN about a week ago and just finished my shadetree tune up. I mirror polished the blade, lock, and clip. Polished the pivot area of the liners, and the washers as well. The back of the lock was a touch high when open, so I rounded the edge just a bit. The clip had a few rough spots on the back that had to be hit with a little 400 grit and then given a final polish. I cleaned up the edge on Soft Arkansas, and ceramics, followed by a good stropping on #6 green compound loaded leather. The F&F was plenty good for a $20 knife, heck, as good as some mainline knives for 5 times the $$$. I just like to tinker. After my little tune up the blade opens as slick as glass, and the lock super smooth and solid. The edge was hair plowing, paper push cutting sharp out of the box, now it is just ridiculous. I have to admit my Byrd purchase was just an experiment, now I am sold on these sleepers 100%, and will be adding to my flock.

Sounds like quite a tune up!
Glad I'm not the only obsessive compulsive sharpener and tinker.
You're going to love the steel; every bit as nice as 440c and N690 and will hold a screaming edge as you've already noticed.
"High Five" to the sleeper of the year! :D

Thanks for sharing and welcome to the forum. Congrats on your first byrd.
First they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not stand up, because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Thanks for the nice welcome guys. I called it a tune up just because the knife was functionally fine out of the box. The only real functional work I did was to mirror all the contacts in the pivot area, and break the back edge on the lock. Everything else was just vanity. The mirror polished pieces just let me have super slick action, even at higher tension, so I have an easy open with no side to side blade play. Most of it was just a disco show though. So much for my inexpensive beater huh?
