books(need another shelf... ), tools, electronic parts(have a good pile of parts so far.... have stuff for 3 projects on my table right now  binary 24hr clock, 12volt supply, 30sec timer for work), computers (6 comps on my floor and 4 boxes of parts, not to mention this comp)...
and of course eating.

Why do people worry more if you argue with your voices than if you just talk with them? What about if you lose those arguements?
Slowly going crazy at work... they found a way to make the voices work too.

This is a dark and scary place.. :) Let's see - one of my BIG passions away from knives, is 8-Ball/9-Ball. So....with that comes cues (I'm much better there now, I'm down to my competition cue, break cue, and jump cue - I used to have up to 6 competition cues), and, of course, you need a good case. We'll stay away from the alcohol side :) . I play in two leagues. I do leatherwork, plus my shop gets multiple uses for woodworking/leatherworking/a bit of knifemaking/modding, etc when I get a moment or three (not for the last year or so on the knifemaking......) When I get those moments where I'm stuck on what knife to buy next, flashlights, edc things get in there. I collect movies - I don't have cable, and where I live, I can't get good reception AND, because I'm always tinkering around, it's easier to buy a movie than rent it - I have to watch one 3 or times to see all of it, anyway :D Watching a movie with my wife, is the exception, she's just as busy as I am....I used to golf a fair amount, but my work schedule hasn't permitted it this year so far, and it's now probably too late  And then there are tools - because I do a bit of home renovation work (spin-off from my shop, of course) and I got involved in revenue properties late last year, I'm constantly looking for things to do things better. Not so much a hobby thing, but I also pick up techy toy type things for work as well - USB drives, the odd whizzy pen (I've been playing with the idea of making them......), etc. Recently, getting the odd thing here and there for my grandson - grandpa's are supposed to spoil'em right...... :D

Mountainbike (used to cost a lot, now the bike is the way I want it to be and costs are low)
HiFi (once every 7 years this hobby is very expensive :D )
Car, I do drive a company car but we're looking for a car of our own. I like Subaru's very much. I used to drive one (Impreza with 220+ hp) and it was a sweet ride. And now we're looking for a young used Impreza WRX with low mile-age.

I can't believe that there aren't more of you out there like me: Firearms and hunting! That's where my non-spydie money goes. I just dropped a wad of cash into a Weatherby Super Big Gamemaster rifle- .300 Win Mag. with a Nikon Monarch scope. A few days before that, I had to upgrade the handgun arsenal with the purchase of two new Glocks- a 23 and a 27. I've been upgrading the hunting "wardrobe" lately also: three Filson Tin Cloth coats, two Shelter Cloth coats, an upland suspender vest, a pair of Tin Cloth pants, and a pair of Shelter Cloth rain pants.
I outfitted myself for serious backpacking last year, also. That was another money pit- over $100 for a tiny stove?! God, I could spend another $50 and buy a kitchen range!!!
I'm horrified to think about any other hobbies, since I would end up living in my truck!

well, I'm not even a knife collector so this thread is strange to me... Ok, so I spend "extra" money on stuff... same as a lot of ya's camping, hunting, etc. But mainly my "extra" money goes to paintball. I've been playing about 10yrs now, gone dead broke because of it twice. You always seem to put more into it than you get back... If I could only figure that out... My car seems to eat up a lot of money too... stupid hot rod. lol

I warmly recommend the Princeton Tec Apex for a night hiking headlamp. I've used it down to 30 below while skiing and it is amazing. If that is a bit pricey I'd go for it's smaller brother the EOS also from Princeton tec.Karen wrote:I'm a school teacher, so most of my spare money goes to books, pens, pencils, notebooks and other supplies for the kids I teach.
My other hobbies are :
-coin collecting (U.S., mostly silver)
-deer and boer hunting, and hunting toys (I want to start reloading to save $)
-arrowhead collecting, (ie ...the 1st serrated blade edges) :-) I'm looking for a nice clovis point now...
-backbacking supplies and tools. ( I need a headlamp for night hiking)
-feeding my cat and my .30 carbine :spyder:
PS! Is it normal for teachers in the US to have to buy school supplies for the kids?
Here in Norway they either get it free from the school or buy their own...

24 gram darts, tungsten tips, $30 a set, plus alum shafts for another $5 a set.... on my 2nd replacement set of shafts now and about my 9-10th tip(at least these ones I can just screw a new tip into, my sets a few years back were solid cast).
21oz Ti cue, fibreglass core, 2 section, drop in case, $95... and compared to my last cue this one is dirt cheap.... had a BEAUTIFUL solid hardwood cue. 3 section, custom built to my shoulder height, only ran me $400 by the time it was done
At least table tennis is cheap.... our entertainment at work during breaks... $5 paddle and $3/6 balls.
I go cheap for my movies... I pre-pay for a dozen at a time, rent 1-2 a week and burn em the next morning. Only cost em a few cents to produce, see no reason to pay $20 for it. Just upgraded last week from a 128 book to a 228 book.... apparently a banker box holds about 100 cases. Have a pile to start a new box with.

When I read Karens post I thought of my wife. She is a grade three teacher here in Canada, and yes the school provides the basic material for class. However, teachers it seems spend a lot of their own money on books, supplies and classroom materials.Once a week at least my wife is at the dollar store and Staples getting stuff to personalize her class, reward her students or provide for kids who may not have all the stuff they need.I bet this is an international trend.

I have the beautiful wife and the son, who is senior in high school.
Due to my Spyderco addiction and my latest and future acquisitions he will have to go to community college, instead of Yale :D :D :D

You know, caving is one of the cheapest thing to do: You need dirty clothes, it's always humid and near 5 degrees (Or more if you go really deep), and the helmet and gaz light for it is somewhere around 150.00$.Axlis wrote:Hobbies? Pretty limited income here, but when I have extra it goes to Manga, videogames, and cat food. :D
If I had the funds, I would invest in some caving gear and spend some quality time underground.
Also, music is a MAJOR part of my life, and it's something I could spend a bunch of money on.
Then, you need a battery driven head light.
That's it.
Put in the regular water and those white round puck to make light( :o ) and there you go.
Oh, wait, I forgot: Plane tickets to Italy and France, where they have 100 miles long tunnels caverns... :D

We do buy prices and extras for them. I teach in High school/college and the students are still suckers for pricessquad314 wrote:Sverre,

If it is directly related to the subject my school does refund me my expenses. I normally only get them refunded when it is larger amounts of money to avoid the paper work. Some schools are better funded than others so it varies a lot even if it shouldn't.

You, euhh, collect cat food Axlis?Axlis wrote:Hobbies? Pretty limited income here, but when I have extra it goes to Manga, videogames, and cat food. :D .

Just kidding.
For me it's knifemaking, getting me the tools and materials is heavy competition.
After all, I prefer making a knife over buying one.
