Spyderco Survival Knife
this may seem like a dumb question, but does Spyderco really have a survival knife? i mean my all time favorite knife in the world is the spyderco chinook II but i dont really consider it a survival knife, though it is more than "just as tough" as any survival knife.. any thoughts men?

Great question! Though any knive could be considered a survival knife in what ever unfortunate circumstances you find yourself. "It's not what you've got it's how you use it" that usually determines "makin it or breakin it".
If your looking for a "specific" outdoors survival knife, the most obvious would be the now disco'd Temperence. Other good choices would be the popular Manix and Military though less expensive choices like the FB Moran, ATR, Persion and the Chinook would be other great "Rambo's". I'd also recommend a first aid kit, field sharpening stone or steel and a SAK or multi-tool as bare minimums.
My favorite B.O.B. choice would be the Delica because of it's size and EDC portability.
Having spent alot of time in the wilderness ... your less apt to be able to pick your knife unless you plan for it. Be prepared with more than your knife and know how to use it when you have to ... :D

Funny thing, when you say "survival knife" people think merely at those Rambo bowies with compass (and other more or less useful stuff) in the handles and backsaw blades.
Just like my forespeakers said, it all depends on the environment you're dealing with.

If I had to choose one, I'd go with the Perrin. It's discontinued, but should be possible to obtain.

Uh-oh. Does Spyderco have to call it a survival knife for it to be a survival knife?spydermdz wrote: i was wanting to get one from spyderco, but i couldnt recall seeing something from the co that was called a survival knife..
I feel folders are the wrong choice for a survival knife, whether it's live-off-the-land survival or I'm-lost-in-the-woods-for-a-night survival. Too easy to bust a lock on something as simple as batoning. Chinook's as good as any if you're stuck with a folder, but fixed blade is the way to go.but as i have said numerous times, the chinook, my ultimate knife for anything, is about as good as i need...

No need to **** anyone, there have been multiple threads on the matter these past few months, some even fresh today.spydermdz wrote:i dont know Joe. i hope so.. i need me a good spyderco survival knife.. but **** you, it made me feel good to feel like i was calling for something.. even though sal already has it coming lol
Follow the mushin, but pay it no heed.
Spydermdz -- I got your joke...
Unfortunately, text based communication will have mis-reads -- we don't get the other visual/audio cues that would have explained your intent. There weren't any emoticons around that remark either, so Zenheretic simply mis-translated your intent.
You can still get the Temperance at some online retailers until the other "survival" worthy :spyder: s start showing up. Let us know what you think of it when it arrives.

And speaking of survival knives, wasn't there a survival book out on the market where the author, in photos, uses an Endura-3(50/50) as a survival knife????
