Spyderco Meet 2007

Good news! The Spyderco team have asked me to let you know that the UK visit is planned for Sunday 4th February 2007 (*Edited - Corrected Date - Taz). Sal was very impressed with this years venue so will be using the Royal Armouries in Leeds again in 2007. I understand that this will involve travelling a good distance for some members but it is fairly central.

Like the 2006 visit this will not be an “open show”, only members from here and the Spyderco Forum will be invited to attend. Sal intends to structure the “mini show” much as the last one but would like to hear your ideas about how improvements can be made. Please let me know what you would like to see and hear! Your input is very important to Sal and the team.

I would like to know roughly how many people will be able to attend so I can organise a room at the Royal Armouries.

Those intending to attend please put your name down in this thread on British Blades: http://www.britishblades.com/forums/sho ... hp?t=25059

Please keep your suggestions in this thread.

Regards, Ken

Hi Ken,

Thanx for the post, however, I believe the dates for the UK show was tentatively set for FEB 4. A'dam is tentatively scheduled for the following Saturday, FEB 10.

The MAR 4 date was set with the possibility of a Show in Solingen, with the crew going to IWA following the show. We hadn't asked yet on the German forum if they're interested. Though there was some interest expressed at the IWA show. I'll post there tomorrow.

Notices like this should probably begin here.

I'd like to thank Ken for his offer to handle prep. And to Jur for the A'dam prep. These events could not occur without their work.

As Ken mentioned, "constant improvement is the way", so we need your thoughts on what would make it a more successful gathering. .

I wanted to catch the date thing early in the thread.

Hi Sal,

Any chance we could get something like this setup in Golden? While it's great to swing by SFO to see all the exiting models, it seems a shame for your neighbors to have to see the latest and greatest in overseas pictures.

Thank you Kristi. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

The way things work does tickle me. One day I was in the store and one of the guys behind the counter noticed my UK pen (which as pretty much displaced the Rookie from my pocket). It seems he hadn't seen one at that point <g>.

Actually that visit was capped off by a more recent one to drop of a Ti Herbst and Salsa for tune up. The Herbst was... lickety-split...spine whacked on the counter and they noted that they'd never seen a Salsa before. Made me wonder if a display similar to Native history (which is great by the way) might be in order for some of the other knives.

Hi Ken,

I had a great time last year. I didn't have time to do the exhibits justice. I enjoyed the female warrior in ancient Japan performance. I planning on returning. Is there any particular topic that you would like me to discuss?...Take Care...Ed

It was good to meet you at the last show. It is good news that you are able to come over again. :D I will talk to the people who are coming and find out what they would like you to talk about this time.

Really looking forward to this! :D

Ed, would it be possible to have a discussion about the differences between folded steel, Wootz and Pattern welded steel? :)

Time to begin working out details on our end in Golden.

Thanx much to Ken and Jur for planning.

It looks like Eric, Ed and I will be coming from the US and Gail might join.

We'll engrave another meet bug.

What else would interest you?

"Good Morning" Sal, Happy New Year to Gail, Eric and you.
In concern of interest, I've suggested to Ed if he could address the ICCT and the cutting competitions during the Leeds and Amsterdam shows. The rules, the cutting, the classes and the intention to go international with the Int. Cutting Competition trail. Knowing that Spyderco recently started to sponsor this event and two of the cutting competitioners, I thought it would be great to receive first hand info on this exciting competition. Ed will do this, bring his pro-cutters, and do some demo cuts from the competition. Ken and I will prepare all that is needed here.

It would be great if you could bring the Spyderco ICCT prototypes and the Bushcraft proto's or concept models, as far as you have them available for showing.

I also like the commemorative Spyderco coin for each meet and visitor ( let's make this a tradition). Remember, last year Spyderco was very generous in spending a "small" gift besides the hats, the pins, and T-shirts.
Having a stack of the new brochures would also help.

I'm looking forward to teaming up again! Thanks for your vivid interest.
Jurphaas. :)
