Three days of Mike teaching? and getting the MBC levels all in a row?

Ok..Mikes offering a GREAT learning experience..
If you haven't figured out what to give yourself for a present this year..well I'd say this is it!

For those of you not sure..Mike is truly one of the bst eged Tool instructors there is..
He won't tell you that, nor imply it so I will..

I don't think we'll be offering this in October. Our original thought was that for very two Level 1 classes we conduct, we would be able to generate interest for one Level 2 class. Following this pattern, we thought we'd try a Level2/Level 3 combination this month. Unfortunately, the response to the Level 2 class has been less than anticipated. To bolster attendance for that class, I decided rather late in the game to add the Friday Level 1 class.

In the future, we plan to offer back-to-back Level 1-2 and 3-4 to make it worthwhile for folks coming in from out of town. However, if there is sufficient interest in larger "package deals," including Levels 1-4 back-to-back, I would be interested in hearing from you.

We're presently working on magazine advertising for the MBC program and are preparing a full-color brochure that will be available later this year. An MBC page on the Spyderco web site is also planned. Once all this is in place, we are confident that the program will grow rapidly and attract a greater number of students. We are determined to make the MBC program a success, but like anything else, we are experiencing a learning curve. Please continue to offer your ideas and input so we can build a program that truly meets your needs.

I agree that for out-of-towners like myself a minimum of two days is a must. (I'm planning to attend in Oct.) Glad to hear about the MBC web page, having done a lot of related web surfing of late I am sure it will stand out.

Mr. Janich,
Any chance on offering the Level 3 and 4 MBC classes the next days after the Level 1 and 2 classes in August? I will be traveling a long distance from Hawaii in order to take the Level 1-2 classes and it would be great to get 3-4 right after. Much more cost effective. I think there would be many others interested in doing this, too. Thanks for your reply. Have a great day!

I will talk with the powers that be and see if that is possible. The best way to make it happen, however, is to have people actually express interest on the forum for all to see. Anyone else interested in Levels 1-4 back to back????

Come on all you Spyderco MBC fans! Here's our chance to get levels 1-4 of MBC knife training in August, back to back. I'm sure M. Janich and Spyderco would work on getting us a good deal, too. We all talk about how important knife training is and now its time to walk the walk. Anyone else interested? Let Janich and Spyderco know on the MBC forum with a quick post. Thanks Mike for asking the "powers that be" and taking my humble request into consideration.

I'll be in the Denver area from about the 26-27 of July to about Aug 9 or 10th.

I'm a nice, older Canadian. I assume that mentioning that I'm an older Canadian tells you all that I'm not as good as I once was but I'm as good once as I ever was!

My wife is doing family business, my kids will be with Bill Kip (RMCAT) and I'll be wandering around looking for the Spydie factory and trying to tease someone into letting me attend a seminar!!! <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

Mr. Janich, I agree with Tim, even though I won't be traveling from Hawaiia. I would love to get all 4 classes in a row .A friend and myself will be there next year sometime to take classes and it would be near impossible to make 2 trips. A week long course would be great!

I would also be interested in taking a Gunting course in the same trip.

I discussed the idea of back-to-back Levels 1-4 in August and/or October with Gail. Basically, we need to get six people in each level to make the classes viable. If we can get enough students to commit to each level (or the full four-day package), we'll do it. To document this commitment, you'll have to formally register for the class and express your desire to attend all four levels. We haven't settled on a formal price yet, but it will probably be in the range of $600.00. I'll confirm this and post the exact amount soon. That breaks out to $150.00 per 8-hour day of training, and each day includes continental breakfast, lunch, and a gift from Spyderco (e.g., Endura or Delica trainer, live blade of same, sharpener, etc.).

In order to be fair to folks planning well in advance, we'll have to make a formal decision well in advance. I think a 1 August deadline is fair for the August class. If we get enough participation, count me in. If not, we'll stick with Levels 1 and 2 only.

For Sochin, although our seminar schedule and your travel schedule don't coincide, get in touch with me while you're in town. I have a small group of private students that meets twice a week. If you'd like to stop by and play, you're welcome to.

For the record, I do offer private instruction in addition to the public MBC classes; however, it is not appropriate to discuss details here. If anyone is interested, please e-mail me directly and keep the forum clean.

One final consideration...

Although taking Levels 1-4 back to back may sound great, it may be tough to retain everything you learn. To really develop your skills, it's a good idea to take a level or two, really practice what you learned, then come back and get the next installment. This really applies to Level 4, which requires a solid understanding and proficiency in Level 1-3 skills in order to make it all come together. Food or thought...
