Thanks for the pics guys, they seem to be well made. Any blade plays? (horizontal, vertical?) How is the action, is it smooth enough?
Can anybody compare the quality to the SS byrds models?

I was thinking about that last night. One of the first threads I ever started on this forum was a review of the original byrd Meadowlark (probably the shortest knife review I've ever written). It should be interesting to see how they compare. The Meadowlark was the one that started it for me with the byrds. I sold that one shortly after I aquired it and don't anticipate keeping this one since I've become so attatched to hawkbills, and wharncliffe's thanks to the good doctor. However, doing a review is a fun and rewarding endeavor. Now that I have a DC, pics should be easier.

I would like you to do it, because you have proven yourself to be one of the orthodox "byrds-fans". I would bet that if there is any difference in manufacturing (and I would like to hear that it is..new ones are better ones?!) your eyes will find it.

Been working some crazy hours this week, but finally got a chance to compare the stainless and g10 meadowlarks. Size: identical, except for the g10 handle plus liners being thicker than the stainless handle. No surprise there. Weight: 115g for the stainless version, 95g for the g10, according to my scales. This is somewhat surprising, with full steel liners and g10 I would have thought they would have been closer to the same weight. The g10 example is actually 17% lighter. Everything else the same, I guess it comes down to your weight/handle thickness preference.

You guys are killing me :) I ordered mine last week and the more I look at your pics, to more I can´t wait till it´s here. IMO for 20 bucks you can´t do anything wrong but if it´s as good as it looks, I definitely will get some more. This knife just looks like it was made to be customized :D

what a FANTASTIC knife!

i've gone through a handful of spydies and byrds over the last year. all were nice knives and of great quality. of the few byrds i've handled, i really can't believe the quality for the price, its just about unheard of.

but MAN this G10 meadowlark is just TOO GOOD :eek: i think it fits my hand better than any knife i've had before. the size is perfect, the thickness is nice, and the weight vs. a solid stainless model is so much more reasonable. the feel of the G10 is excellent. so much better than FRN in my opinion.

edge was NICE and sharp out of the box, we'll see how she holds up over time (i expect quite well from prev experience and what others have said). i think i'll see about a lowrider clip to finish off this great package of a knife!

now if a fully serrated version were offered... :D

I just took mine out of its package. After a first glance and a light spinewhack test, I have to say that this knife is a whole lot better than the SS Cara Cara I had. The G-10 reminds me a little bit of the older Spyderco models with G-10 scales and the size ist just perfect for me. Also the 50/50 choil is a feature that I miss on the D4. I think I'll get my D4 a little rest and EDC the Meadowlark for a couple of weeks. :)

The only thing I don't like are the coloured screws and pivot pin. The pivot already lost a little bit of colour just from rubbing against the box. If they were left without a coating (Is it a coating?) they would definitely (in my opinion) look better and I guess it would also save some money in the production.

Everything else is WAY better than I would have expected from a $ 20 knife - mine does not even have any bladeplay. The Cara Cara I had was a bit wobbly in comparison :rolleyes:

To put it in one sentence for those who are still hesitating to buy one: Best value for the money!

It truly seems that the workmanship improved a lot and to me the G-10 Meadowlark looks like a true alternative to a Spyderco when it comes to dirty jobs or if you don't want (or can) buy an expensive knife as a heavy-user.

I guess I'll buy a couple more :D
