To the guy that wanted a new black waved endura-

#1

Post by jlh2600 »

Would have just pm'd him and saved a thread, but don't remember who it was. He really wanted one of the new enduras with a wave, but the grey color was the only thing stopping him.

So just as an FYI- they sent a batch to thebladeshop.com that are all black handled waves for some reason. They were letting everyone know who pre ordered of this before they shipped them the wrong color.

The new waved production knives will all be black handled. Only the original limited run of 500 has greyish handles.

Moteng, a spyderco distributor, also shows gray waved endura 4s, not black. Was wondering about that myself

Quick clarification, they are in fact Grey. It's a dark grey, but it is grey, not black.

I'll post a new thread too, so this doesn't get missed. :D

Thanks for clearing up the controversy. Well, one of the very few nice things about living in NYC is that knife shops CAN be found. I'll just head on over to one of the two I usually go to, and see for myself. Hopefully the dark grey is dark enough. If it is...... out comes the wallet.

Dude, talk to the guy at the thebladeshop.com first. He had them in, and warned me they were black- knew I was expecting grey so warned me about it. So either the grey is so dark that it's black, or they actually sent him some black ones.

The grey is dark enough that if :spyder: sold the knives as black I doubt that anyone would question it. Check out the photos on THIS PAGE. Unless held side-by-side with a "true" black FRN handled :spyder: most people would call it black. It acutally looks darker than :spyder: black G-10 when viewed that way. Under strong light you can tell it is lighter than at least some black FRN ones, but not by much.

Maybe that would explain it, except (according to him) he was told these were black, and the grey ones would be coming in 2 or three weeks. Maybe that part was just "sales talk".... (edit) to explain what he thought was black that he recieved. I might call him again.

If you're willing to spend the extra bucks, then I think a really black endura is only two torx drivers away. Just get a black Endura and switching the handles should be easy enough.

I didn't have a chance to talk to the guy, but I will in a few hours. Best way to make sure would be to ask him to compare the waved version in one hand, with a standard Endura 4 in the other.

I got to admit, from the link provided above, it doesn't look grey. Definitely closer to black. Maybe it's because of the angle of the knife in the pic, but if I had to choose a color, I'd say that handle is Gunmetal Blue.
