Time for a New Cricket Sprint Run?
Time for a New Cricket Sprint Run?
Please, Sal
It is pretty much impossible to get an old aluminum Cricket and supplies for the carbon fiber model are dwindling. I know that last winter Sal asked forumites if they would be interested in a alimite or colored FRN version.
The almite might be a good substitute for those that miss the aluminum model. Either the Ayoob black or Chinese Lum Green would look very cool on a almite Cricket.
A dark green, blue or orange FRN Cricket would also be nice.
I believe that there is also a prototype of the Cricket with handles composed of the inlay material used on the Vesuvius. That would be a very sharp looking knife.
A long time ago I heard of a picture of g10 Cricket prototype in a Japanese knife magazine. I think a colored g10 Cricket would be a real great knife.
Personally I will buy pretty much any variation of the Cricket (except for the pink FRN). Is there any one else interested in another Cricket variation?

Considering all of my attempts to locate an aluminum Cricket have turned up dead-ends, I'm ALL FOR a new sprint run of almite (close enough to aluminum)! <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>
Colors? How about black (most wide-spread appeal, I'd bet).
Other subtle/utilitarian colors:
Olive/drab green
Rust/orangish-brownish-reddish
I know, it sounds boring, but I think they'd look really good. (Did I mention I prefer earth-toned colors?)

Oops again, I missed the other discussion about www.afmo.com. This is what they sent me by e-mail. Let's hope for the best...

Please don't do a Sprint Run with FRN handles. What a waste of a perfectly good SPRINT RUN!!! If we are shooting for a new model Cricket, please, please use Aluminum or G-10 or even Titanium would be nice. The Blue G-10 used on the Bladeforum Native would be nice! IMHO!!!

Seemed to have no effect on the other thread, but will have my say again.
This AFMO outfit has their own brand name knives -- believe they're actually Fury, made in China. First one on the list is the "Harpy". This is a ripoff from Spyderco. They also sell S&W, most of whose models are ripoffs. They ought not to be patronized, even if they do have a knife you really want -- IMHO. The other thread indicated that tho their site stated clearly aluminum handles they were "out" and selling FRNs for $20 bucks more than the FRNs at Bayou LaFourche. Please don't whine here if you get ripped.

Actually, we're quite behind on keeping up with the FRN Crickets. Making a special handle out of another material requires engineering and tooling which would be very difficult at this time. The only possibility might be a colored FRN version.
Assuming that possible, no promises, what would be choices of color. 3 choices in order of preference.
