A pocketclip innovation? Maybe?
A pocketclip innovation? Maybe?
Mr. Glesser please consider this. You have probably thought of this before maybe but it does deserve some further looking into. We again have some of the guys complaining about the pocket clip being in their way. It's not an issue with me I have simply adapted to it but consider this as a possibility.
Why not engineer a pocket clip with a "QUICK CONNECT" device for quick, easy, temporary removal. Now this could be implemented maybe like on the high end, Golden Colorado knives. But just think of all of the whining and complaining that would immediately cease :D If you are not familiar with what I am talking about then go to a bicycle shop and have them demonstrate a "QUICK CONNECT" front wheel for you.
I would bet that this could be easily engineered with some type of a pin that you could pull out which in turn would release the clip. Like I said I would only make it available on "high end" knives which would encourage more sales of your $180 and above models. Just a thought>> but I do think it could be done. It just seems apropos for a company whose hallmark is innovation.

Hi JD,
"Necessity is the mother of invention".
Boker has a knife with a clip that slides into the handle.
We designed a clip a number of years ago that folds into the handle. I guess it depends on whether or not the market wants the "improvement" badly enough to R&D the idea.
The major difficulty with clips is that they must be tougher than many are aware of. We've made more types of clips than any other company so we're not afraid to test. I see many clips made by many companies that IMO, don't work very well....but if the knife is only a collector piece that isn't used, it doesn't matter. Our knives are designed and built to be used, so we have to think hard about a new one..

Slow
Wow am I slow :o and here I was thinking that I had an original idea  I still think one could be implemented to outshine the others that might already be out there.

:spyder: I love the high ride, visible clips. Easier to get the knife out and less issue of an LEO thinking the knife is concealed. :spyder:

Or, an LEO who has no business wearing a badge, in NYC, could arrest you! Let me explain, among other things]required[/B] to conceal your knife from public view, in NYC and in some other cities as well. If you're carrying a folder that rides high and has a nice shiny clip, don't be surprised if you get hasseled by an LEO. He'll tell you that clips on tactical folders are distinguishable from other types of clips. (With the exception of wire clips on some :spyder: knives, he'd be correct). That means that you are out in public and your knife is visible! Hence, you broke the law by not concealing it. Your clip is visible, therefore; your knife is visible.Michael Cook wrote: :spyder: I love the high ride, visible clips. Sound ridiculous? It is! But how difficult do you think it would be to convince a Judge, who probably knows nothing about tactical folders, that it's a valid point. Exposed clip = exposed knife.
That's the reason why I only carry folders with black handles and black clips. I usually wear black pants when I go out, so it works well for me. Those times I'm wearing different colored pants or shorts; I place the folder in my pocket, without using the clip.

well, i like that idea, but i think the clip methods we have right now need improving in general. on all of my spydercos (centofante IV, bug and shell vesuvius, caly jr) i have the 3-screw clip. i am one of the few people the really likes tip down carry as i like to carry my knives in my rear right pants pocket. the 3-screw clip always gets pushed to one side or the screws come loose and the clip gets wobbly. this is no bueno. the barrel bolt clip is solid as a rock, but only tip up. don't get me wrong, i LOVE all of my spydercos, but this is a problem as i'm worried all this loosening and tightening and adding thread locker and what not is stripping the threads (the tops of the screws are pretty gnarly right now too) and i might lose the ability to have my clip-its clipped at all. just my two cents.

I think we might be. (for those not registered on BF) I am Quoting Sal
"The UKPK and the upcoming Caly3 have deep pocket wire clips. There's been some discussion of making an accessory clip for the Endura4 and Delica4."
"no decisions yet."

While I can appreciate the need to have some knives ride higher in the pocket for quick access, I too favor a lower-riding clip mount. Gull Wing had a picture up of how he reworked the clip on his Para to let it rider lower. I liked what he did and hope to try it myself.
JD does have a point that sometimes it would be nice to quicly remove the clip. And while I've never handled the Boker that Mr. Glesser mentioned, I have seen pictures of it and that clip appears to be asking for problems. ... Another dang moving part. You know what happens to moving parts?

I would like a low rider clip as well however IMO nothing beats the good ol' barrel bolt clip. I have had not much luck lately with those 3 screws clips
