What's in your 3" rotation?

Post by gull wing »

I think a lot of people use this size most of the time. They are a light, easy to carry bunch with just enough cutting power to do most jobs.

There are times when I must have my Para or Manix, no question, but for the most part it's one of these:
1. Calypso Jr VG10 - A slicing genius must have thought this one up. The only thing I would do to change it would be to put a tip up carry.
2. Salt 1 - Is my whittler, the H1 just bites into wood, I love the way it cuts. Yes it doesn't stay as sharp as long as the S30V, but a quick stropping and it's shaving sharp again. The factory clip bit into my hand so, I put a custom Titanium clip on it.
3. Delica 4 - A beautiful knife! With the beefed up tip and sabre grind what a work horse, an all around knife. The clip on this one is perfect and beautiful.
4. UK Pen Knife - Yes it's a cousin to the Calypso Jr, but I think of it as a small Para Military. Hefty overall, grippy G10, and the best ergo's of the bunch. The low rider clip is great and not too much of a bother to get out. The blade of course is a slicer as you would expect. This is my favorite, and when they come out with the locking version, that may change, but it won't be easy.

Mine include - delica 3 and 4, tasman se and pe, and sometimes the harpy. Others get thrown in but these are the ones I get out the most. I usually don't buy knives I can't carry legally, so 3" it is.

Grey Calypso Jr. and S30V C41PBK Native. Neither get carried very often anymore. My norm now is a larger knife (STR customized Atlantic Salt, Stretch, or customized C83 Schempp Persian) for most tasks, and one of my Kiwis for "light work" and those moments where political correctness must take precedence over good sense.

As CA has no [state] length limits, most of my knives are over 3". I do have a Tasman Salt SE, which is often my EDC. I should be getting a Blue Yojimbo G-10 in the mail any day now. :D

Delica 3 and 4 (PE and SE today :) )
BM Mini-Grip
Ka-Bar Dozier/Folding Hunter
Gray Caly Jr.
Centofante 3 and 4

The Delicas, Mini-Grip and Ka-Bar tend to be with me all the time, rest are added, depending..... :D

On days where I expect some heavier cutting, I will drag along the Paramilitary. Larger folders are usually in my Maxpedition.

Since I'm at university most of the time I only carry one EDC, and thats either the Scorpius SE, or the meerkat. But soon my finals will be over, and I will carry more knives on me at one time.

The fantastic ZDP Calypso Jr. does the job 95% of the time, but the Caly III may change that...we'll see. Oh, by the way, is the Caly III going to be produced in Golden? Sorry for the non-sequitur.
Ask me where I got my awesome SUPERHAWK!

More like Mid-Cal now
