I've been wondering, what steels are the handles of SS Spydies made of, for example, are the handles of my Harpy and Cricket VG-10 just like the blade, or is it a different steel?

AFAIK, it's 420 (HC?). It would be pointless to make the handles from the same steel as the blade, as there are different requirements. But there are companies who use for their blades the steel Spyderco uses for the handles

Well, this is a good thing! :D As per MacTech's salt-fogger corrosion test, 420 did nearly identically as well as H1! Sure, 420 can't keep an edge... But serving as a handle, it doesn't have to! :p

Well, I just checked, and the handles are magnetic, so that rules out 300 series stainless.

Some 400 series is most likely. 420HC sounds good, but could be any type.

Yep same here, 420 HC, Sal said they used it to make the handles for their knives while other firms use it to make their blades from!
And i know heat treathing is important in making 420 HC a good blade material :p
