Spyderco Flat-ground folders.
I think I am a flat-grind addict. I had a Lil' T, but it went back to the great Spyder-factory in the sky never to return (Amanda said they couldn't fix the vertical blade play or lock issue and would just have to replace it with equal value). I told her I would take their last two blue SE Dodo's and a FB05 Temperance as my replacements - my wallet was $30 lighter, but I had three new knives on their way to me :D
Anyway, I have not been able to stop thinking about those 3 beautiful weeks I had with the Lil'T before it went on to a better place. Many thanks to Scott (smcfalls) for selling it to me - I never would have discovered this great design otherwise. I will buy a replacement very very soon. It occurred to me that the thing that drew me to it was not just the great ergos and S30V, but the flat-ground blade. I realized it when I noticed that after the Lil'T was gone I always carried CF military, also with the flat-grind.
So, the question occurs: what other flat-grind folders am I missing? So far I am aware of the following:
Lil' Temperance
CF Military
Para Military?
Thanks.

What lock issue? It had a lock issue too? I was only aware of the vertical play when I sold it(and yes I did disclose the vertical play when I sold it, I do have some ethics :p ). I had hoped the next owner would be able to have Spyderco fix it(I didn't have the patience for it) That's sad to hearRockbuster wrote:I had a Lil' T, but it went back to the great Spyder-factory in the sky never to return (Amanda said they couldn't fix the vertical blade play or lock issue and would just have to replace it with equal value).

Flat Grind> HALL OF FAME
The 2 best Flat Grinds ever as far as I'm concerned are the C-54 Big Calypso and the Centofante II C-50. There are others who deserve honorable mention but those 2 were really sweet. Albeit I really like the MILITARY too

As Peter pointed out, the Q and original R are not full flat grinds. The sprint run R2 is.
The Toad is not a flat grind at at all, rather it is what I would call a "straight razor" grind, a very deep, almost full hollow grind.
The Volpe and Nav II are really high saber grinds, not full flat.
The Jess Horn C27 is a flat grind, as are the AG Russell Special C34 Jess Horn IIs and the white micarta version of the AG Russell Special "Baby Jess Horn".

If you want a full flat grind folding :spyder: , with a larger VG-10 blade, the Stretch is it. The longer I have mine, the more I like it.

I'm an admirer of Spyderco's designs. Using them is like immersing yourself in music or studying a painting in a museum. I buy some "fine" art but my preference is for usable art.
