Chad, thank for the comparision shots. I've been thinking the Lava may bump the Dodo of my rear pocket, since it's about the same size, and similar AWESOME ergonomics.

I smell a comparision review in the far far distant way too long to wait future ;)

Sweet, thanks for the Lava/Dodo shots Chad.

I think the Lava might replace my beloved Kopas for change pocket carry.

Chad,

I see you are taking orders for the comparison pics LOL!
Here´s mine:

Lava to Caly Jr.

or

Lava to BIG (guess what!), yes CALYPSO!

or

Lava to another CLB design I am carrying

Just one of them is enough ;)
Thanks much buddy!

I think the Lava is more comparable to the Wegner Mouse or the other smaller Spydercos!

I think a deeper orange G-10 with skeletonized liners would be awesome :D . I like the stainless steel prototype too. Very nice design. IMO much nicer looking than the Subcom though no doubt both are very functional. I might have to pick up yet another small folder :D .

How's this for a ridiculously expensive idea that's totally not feasible.

Layer red, and black Micarta or G-10, textured so both colors show through.

It's got a very cool appearance when done well.

Now wait a second, you might be on to something there. Do you have pics of this???

Please allow me to add on: What about layering red and black in small alternating layers in G10 (or red and orange, I'd say) and carve a grip pattern into the layering (think lil' temprance, but different design) to create a damascus-like effect. Must have liners, of course... :D

A lot of custom makers will do similar things with the handles of their knives. Usually a larger portion of black, so that the handle doesn't look too crazy, but still has just a little bit of color, if I can find some examples of it, I'll post some pics. It's really a cool, yet tasteful, effect.

Ah..found one. First knife I ever saw that used this kinda of two color G-10.

I'll PM you the pics, since they're on a custom makers page, and I don't feel comfortable posting them here without his consent.

Thanks for the pic Chad. I noticed a small mistake though. The hand that holds the knife should have been mine :p Can't wait for your knife to hit the market. Just what I wanted in a small knife: a broad clip point blade with a lot of belly. Who knows, maybe Sal will drop some serrations there too :)

It looks like it's MELTED into your hand. Just one more reason that the Lava is at the TOP of my must-have list. No kidding, my Dodo's and Natives will be "shelf queens" (if that's what youn's call it) next to the C110! :D

Chad, I cannot give you enough praise for this knife and honestly cannot remember the last time I anticipated anything as much as the Lava's production release. This is really gonna be a tough 6 months... :( :o Congrats again on getting it into production!

First off, thank you for the in-hand pics

Second, Dialex was right, there is a mistake. You're holding it in the wrong hand, a knife should always be held with the left hand :p

But seriously, it's cool to see how it sits in the hand, because from the original pics, it looked like the blade would be very low relative to your hand, and the in hand pictures confirm that.

The Lava is going to lean into whatever you cut, and that's exactly what a knife should do(in my humble opinion)

You rock bro
