Chad

Let me add my sincere congratulations to the list of well-wishers!!! I'm sure you're proud of the arrival of the new "little one" When are you handing out the cigars? :D

It's been fun to watch (read about) the progress of a design through to production. I'm looking forward to the design being available!!

(Sal could save a lot of dischord by announcing it as the 2006 Forum knife now - then he wouldn't have to listen to anything on the subject for another year :eek: ;) )

Congrats again on the accomplishment!

I just came back from a short-trip and it is a pleasant surprise to see this new :spyder: "Lava"!

It really looks like as a must :spyder: for me!

Thanks Daywalker :D to design it and thanks Spyderco to produce it.

What will be the catalog number "~C107" maybe?

When can we see a picture of the Lava in the closed position? I'm curious as to how deep the blade lays in the handle.

Aloha mrd74,

Okay, I am going off my old "Ant" design sketches...but I think this is more or less pretty accurate. Hope this helps for now! :o

God bless :cool:

Thanks Daywalker, looks better than expected with no pointy corners to bite you when you reach in your pocket "past" the knife to get something else like coins etc.

Possible Dimensions

#129

Post by uhiforgot »

Did some proportioning a few days ago, and got a pretty good beat on the possible dimensions (there were a few people wondering, including myself).

These are based on the size of the :spyder: round hole.
Format: Round hole diameter/Blade edge length/Overall length

11.0mm/37.1mm/122.4mm <=> 0.433in/1.462in/4.818in
12.0mm/40.5mm/133.5mm <=> 0.472in/1.594in/5.256in
13.0mm/43.9mm/144.6mm <=> 0.512in/1.727in/5.694in
14.0mm/47.3mm/155.7mm <=> 0.551in/1.860in/6.312in

Size 12 (by the mm diameter of the round hole) is a very likely production choice in this instance.

Thanks to Chad for lettin me guess at this stuff, and I got dibs on 4 or 5 of these Lavas when they're finally released!!!!

Aloha uhiforgot,

Not to insult you or anything, but with your forum name being what it is, you wouldn't happen to be an administrator for Corrections would you? :p J/K!!!

Anyway, no need to thank me...thank YOU for going through all the trouble! What I did was transfer Dex's pic of the Lava to Paint, then I shrunk it down to the match the Trademark RoundHole to that on my Nav2... :o :D

This should be interesting....

I CANNOT WAIT for my production sample. :o

God bless and mahalo! :cool:

Cool, so it's just slightly smaller than the Nav II.

Sounds like a good size to me. I normally can't stand knives that size, but your designs seem to be swaying me to the Dark Side. :p

Am I the only one who thinks we need a damascus run of these? Dark red g-10 and a damascus blade would suit the name just great.

how many in ths first run? we've got a 100 rabid fans that will be buying a few of em each... and another 4K on here still... first run won't take long to sell out(wonder is alex knows how long his took to sell out?)... damascus won't be far behind with that in mind.

I think... :o I hope!

Hah! Alex's design probably sold out immediatley! ;) ...

I'm just waiting to get my money so I can find out where to pre-buy them :p I'm sure that buying 2-3 ahead of release will help to sell em out quicker when they do hit the shelves(if the forum doesn't buy up the first run).
