SHOT Show report
Hey guys,
I still haven't heard anything out of SHOT. Can someone who was able to get there, please give us a Spyderco sit rep. Even though i'm out of extra funds right now, I still like to have dreams to drool over. Thanks :D

First they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not stand up, because I was not a Trade Unionist.

Pics from SHOT 2006
Here are a bunch of pics from SHOT 2006.
Knife content is very limited on the Glock website.
I would like to know, if anyone have seen the Shot Show. If they went there, then maybe just letting us know what is the new model they have?
For instance, the Delica in ZDP189. Does anyone seen it? I really want to know if they are in the shape of Delica 3 or Delica 4.
If they are in Delica 4, that would be great. I really want one of that.

Kristi, thanks for reply. Does Spyderco launch any other new product or Sprint run in the Shot Show? What are they?TazKristi wrote:surawut,

SHOT Show
The SHOT show is a very important event in the industry. About 50% of the money that changes hands in the industry does so as a result of this show. If you are going to be a player you got to be there. The show has continues to expand. I'm fairly sure that it is now over 5 miles of isles. This year they set up a 30,000 sq ft tent to hold the growth in vendors.
I generally man the concepts and prototype case. Ever year there are new concepts that are innovative and totally new to me. I have to get educated every year to present the knives. There might be other companies that go to this effort; but I don't know of any.
The show is not just for sales. There are many networks expanded, new technologies to explore, and manufacturing alliances to be made. Progress was made with Crucible and the steel choices on the "Camp-comp" knife. 3V looks like the best choice. Progress was made on lining out thick affordable Titanium for the "Tuff" folder. These are but 2 of many projects looking for solutions to productions problems.
The SHOT show is a time when many people come together and other business is discussed. One evening I was in a meeting with Jim Crowel. Gail Bradley, Warren Osborn, and Crucibles' Scott Devanna. We are working on safety and certification and training for the International Cutting Competitions. I got to spend an evening with my friends from Isreal. We share a enjoyment of modern arnis but rarely get to visit, more time well spent.
My friend Don accompanied me to the Show. Don brought his pedometer. Day 1 of the show Don's pedometer recorded 10.5 miles, all on concrete. 5 days, 4 airports, 4 days of show, and some of the worst and some of the best taxi service on the planet has got to add up to well over 50 miles of concrete covered. You have a huge choice of some of the least healthy food on the planet. The Boy Scouts give a merit badge for this kind of performance; Spyderco sales crew does versions of this show many times per year.
I don't know deliver dates on anything. Spyderco gets product commitments for timely delivery that aren't always timely. The best information about product and delivery is usually timely here at the forum. It is near impossible to make commitments when you rely on the efficiency of your contractors. Spyderco's integrity precludes them from making promises on anything but fact. They don't want to mislead the ELU. Their ethics have shaped their policy.
I encourage you to track down Doug Ritter;s comments on the show, with many company lines discussed. They will be published on line in the next week or so...Take Care...Ed

Assuming you are staying in the more modern south end of the Strip, if the taxis take you from the airport to your hotel via the freeway, you should know you are most likely getting screwed.Ed Schempp wrote: and some of the worst and some of the best taxi service on the planet

Thanks for the report Mr. Schempp.
Follow the mushin, but pay it no heed.
Mahalo Ed,
Thanks for taking the time to let us unfortunate ones know how the SHOT Show is like. :o My friend, you should be "relaxing", not writing!
However, since you already did, I second the appreciation of zenheretic for your review. Also, thanks for your kind words regarding the Lava...

True, but the Gil Hibben collab Dyads alone are worth the effort. :eek:Slvgx wrote:I saw those pictures, but there isn't really much knife content.![]()

I have to keep reminding myself, like Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, "There's no accounting for taste", "There's no accounting for taste".

That's very nice to hear! The Tuff folder concept is amazing, and I want one, possibly two! SHOT show "prototype" display
It was nice to finally meet people you hear about or converse with on the net, I met Sal, Ed, and saw Joyce.
The best part of the Spyderco booth was the "prototype" display. It was kind of tucked away there in the back.
I'm glad my curiosity got to me.
I headed back there and was checking the new, odd sharp things out, when Sal came over to explain how some of them operated.
As he pulled some out and demonstrated, I knew I be looking forward to some of these new creations.
I asked him if a couple of the items had been introduced on the forums, because I certainly had not heard about them, but I was told they are still in the "secret" stage.
A couple of "new" ideas for Spyderco to say the least.
