After only having my ladybug for a day, I'm loving the 50/50 edge, but I want a bigger blade...
Looking at the Native, or something along that line, since I can't get my custom knife. I would like to know from my fellow spydie lovers, what is your personal opinion of the Native?
We all start with 10 fingers. Those with Spydies have 9 to spare, Still need a thumb. Good thing I still have 8 to spare...
Opinion of the Native?

To tell you the truth; I don´t really know for what purposes this knife was designed.
The cutting length is too short, it is broad and features a spear point (for what purpose?)so it makes it difficult to use it in connection to controlled cutting. I don´t care much for hollow ground either.
The handle is too short for my hands (medium sized) and the blade displayed a play when I got it.
So you might say that I am confused. It is too small and delicate being a tactical or camp knife and it is too big, heavy and clumsy being a dayly carry knife. IMHO.

The Native is an excellent all-rounder... Lots of praises for the Native Ltwt, good blade geometry and some heft!!! Cuts well with its reliable steel material... Something more awesome will be the Native II... Very handsome SS knife! <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> Now, everyone would jump at the sprint-run pearl inlaid G-10 native... This is as close to a custom piece any Spydernuts could lay their hands on.... <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

While I've aways had reservations about the useage of spear point for other than Self Defence, I have played with the Native and found that that I really like it. However, I will not be purchasing the LWT model, but I will be getting a SS model.....

I use my Gin-1 Native Ltw. w serrations day-by-day. I love it. It's quite a handy tool.Good grip. The tip is great for intricate cutting while at the serrated part of the blade is strong enough.All right the cutting edge lenght is a bit short, but it's just the legal size here in Hungary and in most countries around Europe.The price-value ratio is as perfect as in the case of the Endura and Delica so it can be a fine every day pal: A new "worker".Sorry I can't find a serrated one w the shell inlay.Best regards.Szabolcs.

I just picked up a serrated Gin-1 Native Lwt. and it is now my weakside EDC. I love the feel of this knife, and the fact that it's ambi helps a lot too. This is my first Spydie with the FRN handle, and I must say, FRN doesn't suck. I was always against it, but if feels really nice in the hand, works well with the design, and keeps the price very reasonable. It's not my favorite Spydie, but it's probably in my top 5, and it's great for school.

I am a proud owner of a Native, I love it! The design, size (even for a big hand like mine) and directional grip drives me nuts!
I bought it from a store in Mexico City, it is a shame that they won´t carry Spyderco anymore. So I bought ALL of the remainig knives and I do not feel ashamed at all for spending so much money on these great knives.

I have used the Native for about two years now and love it's durability. It holds an edge fairly well. (I'm hard on knives) I like the drop point, some call it a spear point, but I have large hands so I call it a drop point. My only problem is on both Spyderco's I've owned, the lock wears out allowing the knife to close up unexpectedly. Otherwise I love mine.

hello...i just purchased my first spyderco last night from Cutlery World in the mall here in sw florida. i chose the native(c41pbk). i'm not sure how i feel about the knife yet but i feel that i've been screwed on the price....$68.00!!!! seems a bit high as i've just seen it for $43 thru knife outlet(on-line).they list their reg price as $54.95. although i've always loved knives, i'm new to "collecting" them. i purchased 2(large and med.) cold steel voyager tanto half serrated folders from the knife center(seem like nice people..i also bought an ontario sp8 machete and a schrade extreme survival knife that was shipped with a "rattle"...their last one in stock.i returned it and was sent a new one as soon as they rec'd a new shipment).anyway, i can't seem to enjoy the cold steels. while i am attracted to the look of the tanto blade i don't find it very practical for my everyday minor cutting chores. also their serration is so aggressive or "row-of-needle-like" that it tends to snag line(rope). i wish i could return my cold steels.....last night i intended to buy a spyder like my gf's dad has but i couldn't find. i think it was a dragonfly with a plain edge...nice little pocketknife. so the native is a bit larger...the more i look at it( i haven't cut anything yet) the more i am ok with my buy(except for price!!!!$68 ouch!). i also saw the crkt point guard for $39.95...after looking on the net that is a nice price.this knife seems to be incredibly detailed for the price...torx screws and not rivets!, etc.... any thoughts( other than "get a life"<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle> on the point guard or my above ramblings would be appreciated.
the original reason for writing to the forum was that a couple of forum writers mentioned that the native was quite a knife for it's price point. my price was $68. should i feel bad about paying so much for this particular knife? could i have done better? thank you very much for listening/reading......rob

I just got my FRN Native yesterday and confess that I am quite pleased with it. The CPM440V Plain/Serrated blade seems very strong and with my Sharpmaker I was able to put a razor edge on it. I have to get more accustomed with it's lt.wt.handle since I'm used to carrying the ss Harpy. The clip on the Native is a little less solid and tight clipping than my Harpy but I think that is probably in keeping with it's lt.wt. design.
