Lately there have been some forumites discussing the purchasing of non-Spydie knives and it sounds like most of us do it once and a while. I'm no exception. The last knifereceivedwasa Benchmade Mini Stryker(still waiting for my SS Rookie to arrive :mad: ) I must say I am impressed with this knife and its no-nonsense attitude towards cutting, but its liner lock has failed to engage once or twice and it took me a bit of adjusting of the pivot screw for me to get it just right. It also required a bit of oil to take out some of the friction. No big deal as the thing is very sharp. I found that out tonight as I was oiling the pivot and must have gotten some on my fingers. As I was opening and closing the knife , my thumb slipped off the thumb stud and under the blade, resulting in a centimetre long push cut(not slice) that went down well into the tip of the thumb and instantly started a nice leak of rather thick, red fluid. You know the type; the ones that are so clean, you wouldn't know you were cut if it weren't for the blood as the pain didn't start for a few seconds. So I go to the bathroom ,grab a wad of tp, go upstairs and tell my wife what happened and grab a wet facecloth. All this time, i haven't really looked at the cut as I want to stop the bleeding first. This takes about an hour.I figure the cut is too small need stitches .I wish I had some superglue to seal it. When i look at the cut, I see it took the full side off my nail, clean.Wow, that's a first for me.
I probably won't be able to open and close my knife for a couple of days with my thumb,but it's really not that bad. This was more of a long-winded way to say I'm sorry to my trusty Dragonfly and my other Spydies for straying, even if it was only for a day or two. :o
So you wanna play with "other" knives?
You have obviously angered the spydie-gods, lol!
Seriously, though, I'd say the majority of people here buy another brand of knife at least once in a while.
I don't like to limit myself exclusively to one brand. Even though I love my very most-favored brand, I still buy other knives now and then. I'm a knife fanatic, not a brand fanatic. But for those who exclusively buy only one brand (in this case, spydies), I have no problem with that, either. If it makes them happy, that's what's important.

Sadly, I've been spoiled by Spyderco :o
I've purchased other knives from other companies, but they rarely stay in my collection for long. It all depends on what knife I'm looking for as well. For folding knives I've long since resigned myself to the fact that nothing is going to give me all the features I want(quality, price, etc) like a :spyder: will. Others come close, but don't quite cut it(pun intended
)
Balisongs on the other hand, are usually purchased from other companies. Spyderco only has one so far, and while I enjoy flipping it, I find it a little unwieldy due to it's weight. Something that I attribute that purely to my lack of talent, and not to any engineering flaws on the part of Spyderco.
Fixed blades? All over the board, I definitely have yet to find "the one" fixed blae. The Temp is pretty close though.
A lot of us buy other knives, but we all end up back here. I wonder why

Ok I will be the one that will bring the wrath upon myself, I can take it I have broad shoulders :rolleyes: I do very much like Spyderco knives, they make up a very small part of my collection. Most of my collection is automatic knives, I really like the sound of the spring and how the knife was made, most of my knives are the leverlock auto's some stiletto's and some American auto's also I like fixed blades also, I will put a few pics up
