Perrin bowies : Hard to find?

#1

Post by Rory Quinn »

When the Perrin bowie came out, I adopted a sort of offhand intention to buy one at a later date. I kept putting it off, and even when Spydeco discontinued this knife, I let things slide. First they were to be had in great abundance, and then just the black-bladed version ... and now I've done a search and can't seem to find anywhere that still stocks them.

Now that I could really do with a good drawpoint knife (I was going to match one with a sheath from shawns tactical), I'm out of luck.

Anyone know of anywhere with a few of these left?

best regards all

Rory,

I just searched in the few places that I know of, and came up empty, with one exception: Country Knives. Here is a link that shows that they have it, but the price is quite high- $150 bones! Country Knives- Perrin
I don't know if this is a "help" or not, seeing that the price is so crazy! Good luck- you might also check out the blade Forums trade area, as there may be some hiding out over there. You can also post that you are looking to buy, and someone may wish to sell you theirs. I like mine too much to part with it- Black #013, my favorite collector number! :spyder:

EDIT: After posting, I checked eBay for you- here's a Buy It Now, non-black model for $72.00...

I think your best bet would be Ebay, that's where I got mine.

I usually see 1 or 2 listed per week. Brand new ones tend to go for about $50-65.

G'luck!

There is one up on ebay as we speak.

You know it's kind of funny in a way. With all of the great Spyderco models we talk about here on the Forum I just don't remember hearing much of anything said about that knife. I have a PE satin blade version of it myself. I really like the Temperance fixed blade the very best of any of them but like the other brother said; I don't want to get rid of mine either. It is was of the most comfortable Bowies I have ever held in my hand.

Fred Perrin has a very good name as a knife designer. I too am going to be on the lookout. I do believe that one in mint condition will bring good money in a year or so. ;) :spyder:

I just got one last week. What a great knife! If I'd known, I would have snagged one sooner.
Mine's no safe queen: It went on the magnetic knife rack in the kitchen and my mom used it to cut up apple slices for my son without asking why there was a BOWIE knife in with the kitchen Spydies and Globals.

VG-10 also passed the "cut an apple and leave on the counter for 3 hours" test, BTW. ;)

Looks like they have it with and without the black blade... Not exactly inexpensive though.

Thanks for all your help, guys. E-bay looks like the most economical option. Good to know they are still to be had!
