IIRC Sal once said that the Sharpmaker worked well with blades up to about 10" long. After that the stones cut along the blade rather than up and down and performance suffers. If I get a chance, I'll try to find the original post on BladeForums.com and post a link.

I spent about an hour over at BF and couldn't find the original post. The seach engine doesn't seem to go back past the change in forum software. The more I think about it the more I think that 10" might be on the conservative side of Sal's recommendation, one of the problem's of relying on an ageing memory <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>. It may have been more like 12" or 14" but we'll have to hope Sal sees this thread and helps me out. Anybody else remember seeing the thread in question?
