I bought a Calypso for my son for Christmas, and liked it so much that I ordered another for myself.
I'm curious about why this knife has been discontinued.
Why was the full-size Calyso discontinued?
It just didn't sell well. Who knows why?
Personally, I think it's one of the better Clipits around. Great overall design with good ergonomics and excellent blade geometry. Really easy to carry for a large knife. Very classy look and great fit and finish.
Maybe the average Joe just didn't want a large folder to be so light. The weight, thin scales, and gentlemanly design probably gave people the impression that the knife was just a dress piece and not a user. Plus, although the knife had an elegant and refined design, it didn't have any special or fancy features to make it stand out from the crowd (like a new lock or unusual blade shape).
There are so many 4" folders out there that the large Calypso just quietly fell by the wayside.

I think alot of what cerulean said is true but I think it also came down to price with alot of people. There are so many spyderco knives in that size that are all good knives and some are more affordable. Its hard to see a good knife go away but I can understand Sal's trying to keep only the well selling knives in production with all the new ones coming. Although maybe it isn't going away as fast as we think since it is in the regular listing on the web page and not in the discontinued section.
