D'Allara Drop Point

#1

Post by LJK »

Is that a cool looking knife or what? I always liked and admired the story behind the D'Allara rescue, but was not crazy about the looks of the knife. But the drop point PE blade just looks right on that handle. I'm gonna get me one. Come on who's with me?

It does look fantastic - the only beef I had with the original was the blade design.

i am a huge fan of my D'allara rescue, so one that is desingend for field use is going to be great. Count me in, it has bumped itself to the top of the list.

The D'Allara Drop Point fills a hole in the Spyderco line-up ...

Prior to this, there was no Spydie with both a drop-point blade, and a ball-bearing lock.

That's significant for those of us who like Spyderco blades, buy prefer axis-ish locks over lockback designs.

I mean, I like my Caly Jr., but I'd like it better with a ball-bearing lock. And yes, I understand it was made from an existing design to minimize tooling costs. I'm just talking "perfect world" stuff here.

Three things I would change about the D'Allara Drop Point:

1. Blade length 3" or less. That's just because one can't legally carry a pocket knife in my state with a blade larger than that. So I won't buy any pocket knife with a 3"+ blade, no matter how much I like the knife.

2. Full Flat grind.

3. S30V.

If Spyderco made all three changes above, they'd have a great competitor for the Ritter Mini-Grip ... might actually be better if the Spydie was a full flat grind, instead of the 3/4 flat grind on the Ritter.

All of this IMHO.

I am with you.
Got one on the way.
I think I will like the "improved" ball lock, also with the easier access opening.
The blade just looks useful.
Waiting, waiting.

I can only hope they incorporate the changes made to the Drop Point version into the Rescue version, and then make some in PE. :D
