A Little Life is Saved!

#1

Post by DAYWALKER »

Aloha ALL,

Early evening...my wife and I heard a kitty meowing. Or so we thought, as the rain was very hard, and it was difficult to hear...

The night went by as usual...then we heard it again. Still not sure though...

A few hours ago, we heard it indefinitely. This time, the meowing was more frequent and even louder.

When there are heavy rains, I get a river in my backyard that flows rather rapidly...deepest point is almost 2' deep. So here it is, raining uh, "cats" and dogs. Wife and I start walking towards the "river"...now the meowing is crystal clear. I start shining the Mag Lite towards the kitten's "voice"...can't see it.

I start trudging down the river...I can hear it right next to me...****, I still cannot for the life of me see it. We shine the light up into the trees...nothing. I go into and further down the river a bit more...wife has the light, I cannot see a thing...

I ask for the light as I hear that meowing right in front of me...there it is.

A kitten clutching to some lava rocks in a pretty deep section of the river that forms during heavy rains. Sporting a "Billy Idol" hair-do, it's soaking wet. looks like a huge rat to me...I reach for that lil' guy and he put up no resistance. He stopped crying once I had him, and he was shivering to death! Bad enough it was pouring rain, but there was a nasty cold wind as well...I was amazed he held on as long as he did because we heard his faint meowing from the early evening!!!

Anyway, I was glad that we were able to save him. I told my wife, "Is this a Moses thing or what?" "We should name him Moses!" she says. Nope. "Why?" she asks.

Okay, I just got through watching Episode III several times. At the ending of the movie...well, "a helpless one clutching to lava rock nearing death"?

His name is Anakin. :D Only problem now is telling my daughter we cannot keep him. :( (Thank God she was asleep!) I gotta admit, I have grown a bit attached to this resilient little fellow...after he was towel dried and given some milk, the lil' guy crawled into my jacket and fell asleep...oh boy...now how do I tell *myself* we cannot keep him? :o

God bless and thanks for reading!

I'm looking forward to the rest of the story when you tell us why you're keeping him so long. LOL

That's one lucky kitten! Nice story.

You have saved him. You have fed him. You have named him. You have loved him. How can you not keep him?

Chad,

Does this make you Qui-Gon, saving Anakin and all? :D

Keep him brother... Cats are easy to deal with.. Just feed them, clean their box and give them love... All done.. Now doesn't that sound easy? ;)

Take care and good luck with your decision. :)

Great story DAYWALKER.

Last of story, yet we have to hear I sense.
First they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not stand up, because I was not a Trade Unionist.

The best cat we ever had came to us out of the snow. We kinda rescued it, but I think it just preferred our house to whoever had it before. It was a bobtail cat. It had a tag, we called the owners and didn't get a response. He turned out to be a good hunter. Brought a gopher or a bird in everyday.

You should keep it. If you put a cat door in, you won't even have to clean out it's box.

DAYWALKER, keep that cuty! Cats rule.
Or, if you really can't keep it for some reason, make sure it gets a good home. He (or she) deserves it, after what it's been through.

You must keep it! Yes, I have a soft spot for cats. But as Rock said , they are very easy to take care of. Unlike some pets, cats will return your affection and entertain you for free. What better pet for your daughter than the little kitty that called out to you in it's time of need.
I really liked what Outlaw had to say.

I'm curious, Daywalker, why can't you keep him? God often puts these helpless little critters in our lives for a reason, and they're sure closer to Him than I usually am! We have three now, just because they were there and it had to be, and they teach me lessons every day. Anyway, Just wondering. Nice rescue. :)

Keep him, cats are fun and cuddly and low-maintenance. :)
I'm rather a "dog person", but since my girlfriend brought two into our relationship, I got used to them and like them a lot.
But remember not to give it milk any more, cats have problems digesting it.
