Chinook "Bowie Knife"

Post by northwind »

Had seen pictures of the James Keating "Chinook" but when you see it up close it is a lot more impressive. Saw one today and bought it. Rather massive for a folding knife and has the up swept curve of a Bowie. I am sure that must have been a factor in the design as Keating is a knife fighting instructor and the Bowie has long been the ultimate fighting knife because of the up swept tip. It is 4MM thick ( .156 &quot which is far thicker than most pocket knives and holds its thickness and strength out to the tip. To some people this might look like a "camp knife" but to me, it looks like the ultimate fighting style and basically a "Mini-Bowie". This is one solid knife. I am really impressed with Spyderco's recent tactical knives and reasonable prices. Now the high priced "semi-custom " makers will have to up their standards and get a little more imagination to stay even.

Believe me, its very very impressive.
This was my......erm, sheesh now I must think, got my matriarch then, aaaaaah!!!!!, one of my latter blades, but was my first numbered piece, still is my favorite knife in my Spydie collection, and thats not putting the other pieces down but what a knife.
I mean honestly think of it. James A Keating + Spyderco = ???....Yeah no word for the marvel that comes outta that hehe
Ok well let me stop woffelin along and get down to the facts Ive found.
The blade is heavy, very heavy from the SPydies Ive handled, and I looooooovvvveeee this, hope Syderco never make it lighter, it just feels so right at that weight.
The blade is razor sharp and I love the upswept tip, you can do some nice fine cutting with it.
The lock on that thing is amazing, I always "play" with my locks, when Im bored Im always opening my blade and pushing down on it with my thumb, the others are solid, but on the Chin you can really feel it.
It really is solid, I love the bowies, and definaterly the big boys, but this lill bowie is amazing.
One of the best buys Ive ever done.

If anyone is thinking of getting this blade, dont think, do.
