The H2 Tasman is a pretty handy carry. A little grabby at first but it falls in line with a little time on the Sharpmaker.

Hey David could you repost some of your work on the Carribean? What I can fund has watermarks all over them seems like I remember some sharpmaker stuff with sand paper videos also.

Thanks I am trying to reproduce what you did on some SE blades

I'll try, that's all thanks to wonderful Photobucket. I need to go through this post and reupload the pics from a different host.

Something I noticed recently regarding cardboard cutting. If it’s a little damp—not wet, just slightly damp—a plain edge, even freshly sharpened, often fails to cut, bunching up ripped cardboard under the edge.

I live in the Pacific Northwest. When it’s dry here, it would be considered damp most everywhere else. I recently had about a dozen boxes, all large and heavy with two to three layers. My Manix 2 15V (very sharp) would start cuts and then get hung up. Trying a sawing motion didn’t help, once it hung up.

I switched to a Temperance Cruwear SE. It made short and easy work of all the boxes, which are now stacked in my truck awaiting disposal.

Plain edges are great, but Spyderedges are also great and in some circumstances, indispensable. This thread has been crucial in convincing me to really give SEs a try.

I noticed that with a Temperance SE. It was good before I spent some time with it on a Sharpmaker, but it is noticeably better now.

I just did a bunch of work on a PM2 SE S30V funny how I never see this one mentioned.

It is a slicing machine.

Not all of us are gay. :cheap-sunglasses

I checked out his channel. It looks like he just discovered serrated Spyderco’s. Good!

No, never heard of it... but reading your post looked it up right now... ;)

Well, that "blade basics" guy obviously is really into SE and makes some good points I agree with in general (I´ll link a longer and a shorter SE vid below).

But, even I - as a true SE believer when it comes to EDC folders - feel like he exaggerates a bit or let´s say tries to sell serrations a bit TOO hard (especially in the shorter vid)

Examples where I fully agree:
- SE just works, even when technically dull, while dull PE is pretty much worthless. So if one just wants a "separating tool" and not sharpen it a lot, SE is the way to go imo
- The "sharpening SE is hard" thing IS a myth, but one that I think is really fading already anyway
- SE is great for the folder "bushcraft" stuff I personally tend to do: Just carving a rough notch or pointy stick, cut through some branches and so on.
- SE is much less likely to "slip off" material than PE (PE ideally has to be sharp and rather coarse for that, PE does not slip by nature)

Imo "exaggerations":
- I don´t think SE is better for self defense, but rather PE is (as a non expert I am referring much to experts like @Michael Janich here)
- For detailed wood work, like carving a spoon, even I would prefer PE
- SE "not sharpened for years": Yes, it would still do a "separating job" where PE would not anymore, but I still think SE should really be sharpened too
- He forgets to mention and take into account what the usually much steeper chisel grind contributes to the cut with SE (and not necessarily "only" the teeth themselves).

As said in my previous post: I agree with a lot the guy says, but think he exaggerates a bit and "oversells" serrations (and I am saying this as a true SE guy myself when it comes to EDC folders).

But I actually don´t think he "just" "discovered serrated Spydercos".
I don´t watch much youtube (generally and knife related), but still can say that what I DO like on this channel is that this guy obviously uses and tests his knives before coming to whatever conclusions, while other channels who claim to do "review" vids often really are just "hold the knife in hand first impression" - guys.

So here I am wondering what larger knife does spyderco make with thin blade stock like this? Dare I hope for the coil and serrated?

The Police 4 is what you're looking for.

Sometimes I just dont get Spyderco's choices. The Police 4 is okay but at over 4 inches it is also illegal in Florida. 4 inch max folder law.

What I would really like would be the Stretch2 straight Spine and XL in SE K390 a bonus of course. I know they did it in H2 but that is not ffg. Too bad it's not in LC200N.

Wasn't there a Surfing Gringo (wonder where he went?) knife in LC200N?

After getting the chaparral I was looking at something a bit bigger in the same or similar blade stock.

I didn't know you had length laws to deal with. You said large and thin, so I gave you large and thin :winking-tongue

You won't find anything as thin as a Chap in a larger size, there's a champagne to get a Chaparral XL but it hasn't happened yet. That 4 inch law ruins some options like the Native Chief that is just slightly over 4 inches.

Yep stupid law but that's Florida concealed carry without a permit for guns is okay though. Go figure.Ya cant have a folding tool a knife over 4 inches but ya can hide a man killer whose only purpose is to kill.

I own guns so I am not anti gun but seriously if you can extend it to a item that's only purpose is a weapon then you can for knives too.

Here is another one they are pushing going from 70MPH as the speed limit to 80MPH.

In Florida the idiots look at 70 as the starting speed not the limit which is bad because the do 90 already. I think the confuse I95 the hwy as the speed limit?

They may as well do away with red lights while they are at it here they are just suggestions no one observes.
