IWA 2026 Videos of new Spyderco production samples
At the IWA Show in Germany, I had a chance to spend a little more time with the new Spyderco production samples that were shown a week earlier at the Amsterdam Meet. These are a few quick videos with different light and a higher resolution, that offer an additional look at these newly unveiled designs.
I added a few close-ups of the spring that is added to the spine, seen from inside the handle, that operate the backspring mechanism to offer a smooth but solid slip-it action.
In my previous images and video, the difference between the polished G-10 and molded FRN handle of the Akro and Akro Lightweight might not be as clear. I think the difference can be better observed in these videos.

Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2026 Report
And that’s all folks, I shared every pixel I could from these excellent new Spyderco offerings. I have no other imagery to share with you. Thank you all so much for watching. I’ll go over the thread in the next few days to see if there are any questions that I could help answer, if my fellow meet attendees didn’t answer them already.
Thanks!

Very interested in the Sheffield made fixed blade.

The Little Kapara is so good. I am definitely buying one.
Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2026 Report
Huge thanks Wouter for putting in the effort once again to bring some of the meeting highlights to the forum! Since I’m an avid photographer myself and know what’s involved, I really appreciate that you voluntarily sacrificed taking in some of the live experience yourself to do this.

Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2026 Report
I wonder if the Alistair Phillips slip joint is closer to the original Kapara. I remember reading that he had originally presented a slip joint model to sal, but sal asked for a bigger, compression lock model which became the Kapara.
Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2026 Report
This is the original Kapara prototype Spyderco received from Alistair Phillips. The blade shape was obviously modified when creating the current compression lock Kapara but the size is similar.
The new Lil Kapara slip joint prototype shown here in this thread shows a blade shape reflecting the original prototype from Alistair Phillips but it's slightly downsized from the original.
One interesting thing to watch for will be if that Lil Kapara slip joint prototype's blade shape will change when the final production piece comes out. Eric was asked about the different blade shapes and said they would both have the blade shape shown on the compression lock version.
Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2026 Report
Thanks @Mr Blonde for all your efforts in hosting the excellent A'dam meet and sharing some of the highlights with the world! It was also great to finally chat in person with you this year!
I agree, the Wolfmouse is one of my favorite upcoming models, certainly the top favorite of the list shown to the public this year. Reminds me a bit of the Spydiechef with the blade shape and it felt great in the hand.

Please . . . to cut to the chase . . .
just give me a hint so I can brace myself well ahead of time . . . to meditate and prepare mentally and spiritually. . . for the dreaded moment of unveiling (which ever year it may come ) . . . is the Collaboration BBB folder going to be blocky and textured ?

or
smooth and roundy
( an image of a brick ((blocky and textured)) vs a wine glass ((smooth and roundy)) would suffice ).
PS: shall I keep watering and fertilizing and massaging and doting over that little savings account ?
or should I. . .
since I now have everything that a man could possible ever want in a life time . . . other than that knife . . .
just give that money away to a homeless guy and feel . . . at long last . . . as if I can finally just relax ?

Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2026 Report
I would not be holding my breath for it yet. There are still 15V sprints coming so as far as i understood they will not begin making it before those are done as it will be made with the last of the steel. Also not having a Amsterdam meet picture normally means you do not need to expect it this year. As most knives shown by Wouter probably do not even get released very soon and are for the second half of the year.Wowbagger wrote: ↑Fri Mar 13, 2026 4:18 pmPlease . . . to cut to the chase . . .

Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2026 Report
However Shawn's design works out, it will be a dandy, that's for sure and certain! Decades, even centuries from now these 15v knives will be discussed over campfires as the great 'steel epoch'. Thanks Spyderco, Sal, Eric, and Shawn!

Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2026 Report
Thanks
Oh I wasn't . Just hoping for a hint ; I mean people have said they have seen prototypes for years at shows .
With all due Super Respect for Shawn . I am not a fan of roundy , smooth (and skinny near the blade) handles .
The fixed blades , without any exception that I have seen so far , have been like that.
Nope nope . I'll pass on that and revel in my Manix if that is the case .
Guess I am out of luck here.
PS : I just went to his site
I was wrong
This : No This sort of maybe
If like the second one down or like the fixed blade but with a folding blade (with one of his crazy thin blades )
Then sign me up
Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2026 Report
If you can imagine this knife as a folder, that is very close to what the design is. It's not a direct 1:1 translation but it gets the idea across. The scales are flat though, not contoured.
Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2026 Report
While I don´t dislike "roundy and smooth" handles necessarily (depends on the overall and general handle shape),I am with you on that "skinny near the blade" - thing.
It is something becoming more and more obvious to me in the recent years:
On most handles (or also choils) and with the way I use knives I don´t like it when the index finger is too recessed compared to the other fingers as in there is to little handle height compared to the rest of the handle (so not much "meat" beneath the index finger).
Not an issue in light use, but when having to grip and use the knife harder, this gives me kind of a "floating" feel and less stability and control over the knife.
I thought though this has much to do with my personal habit of not putting the thumb on a ramp or the spine in general, but rather on the flat of the blade.
Many though obviously do like such handles and they work perfectly well for them (see Street Beat or similar designs), while I actually sold for example my White River Backpacker which I liked a lot initially cause of that particular handle shape.
So just for me it is actually not good news if the BBB folder has such "skinny near the blade" handle...

Thank you Peter, it's a lot of fun to do and bringing some images from the meet -is- part of the meet since the beginning after all!Peter1960 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 11, 2026 12:07 pmHuge thanks Wouter for putting in the effort once again to bring some of the meeting highlights to the forum! All the stuff showed was nice and good but this was the highlight for me ! Don’t dare to use it though ……
Re: Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2026 Report
obviously not. Spyderco is using their 50th to debut their new liner lock back, and also showing off their new choil for ants™
