Spyderco Amsterdam Meet 2026 Report

Thank you Wouter! Always one of the best threads of the year and always highly anticipated! I love to see Spyderco branching out to Sheffield, I’m curious if that happening will also be a “flash batch” (one and done). As for the N5, no surprises there I suppose per the previous teaser, I’m curious if Ed Schempp made the bolster material (it screams Ed), and the blade material choice. I’m a little surprised they didn’t choose a subtle Damascus pattern for the blade, something like the new DamaX that’s out (not Damasteel) that’s supposed to be more affordable. Overall, it seems like a reboot of the 25th anniversary Delica with similar materials (which apparently was pointed out while I was busy typing this out). Great stuff! Cheers, Radioactive

I do believe the MuntjaX will be a "flash production" from Sheffield. Eric mentioned production costs being high there.

Also, yes the bolsters are made by Ed Schempp. I'm reluctant to share blade steel but that proto does represent what it comes with. Damascus on Damascus could get quite "busy" visually.

Part of the idea was to match the 25th Anniversary Delica. Again, reluctant to share much more because the snipers in bushes have me in their sights at the moment...

Honestly I would vote SPY-27, it’s not as catchy as S90V or MannaCut/MagnaMag but it’s Spyderco’s steel, Sal is still very proud of it and IMO performs great. Remember the 25th anniversary was plane old VG-10, I am sure they could have put a “better” steel in it at that time but they went with something that was very popular on their line at the time.

Picking up the MuntjaX felt very much like one of Phil Wilson’s Spyderco designs; the 3D machined micarta handle was finished smooth and comfortable in any grip but still offered a very solid grip in the hand. It’ll be fun to try this knife out. Especially with the SF100 steel, which I’m personally not familiar with. I did appreciate the blade finish, which seemed like a ‘rough’ stonewashed finish.

For those wondering, SF100 is similar to AEB-L.

I must say I am a bit disapointed. Its 50 aniversary and was expecting new Gayle Bradley folder, Shawn Houston folder or something exciting like that. Not one from this is a buy for me

What is the scale material? Can you tell us that? Appears to be bone or horn, possibly mammoth horn?

For those wondering, SF100 is similar to AEB-L.

Thanks--I was wondering. Searched around a bit, have seen comparisons with AEB-L and 13C26, a near duplicate of (or "same as") AEB-L. An ingot steel (~.7% carbon) that is stainless (~13% Cr), with not a whole lot of other ingredients. Likely very tough with modest edge retention (at least in middling hardness ranges). Fine-grained Sheffield razor blade steel. Have seen harness of 60 Rc mentioned, but if it's like AEB-L, maybe that can be pushed upward. Sounds like a steel tuned for thin-edged slicing, if one is willing to touch it up occasionally.

I think I'm in for the 50th Native. Someone in a FB group said the orange scale inlays are bone, is that something anyone can (safely) confirm if it's not still a secret? If it is then keep it to yourself and I'll just wait and see, it won't deter me either way.
