Jeb's pix and mods
Re: Jeb's pix and mods
They are grippy, just down right gritty lol. I love's. These scales feel so good in my paws. It would be killer to see these scales on a 5" Spyderco... just say'n.!!!
Re: Jeb's pix and mods
My new choices for my pack out in my smaller pockets. From the top, the steel goes, VG10, Micro Melt PD 1, MagnaCut and the BBB15V ...

Re: Jeb's pix and mods
Well, I am making an adjustment to the four knives above. Now don't get me wrong here, I really like my Military 2 - 15V BBB... I mean I really like this knife. It will be back in the pocket shortly lol.
But I have another up coming agenda with this change. I am changing the M2 - 15V out for a M2- Spy27... basically for a test run on the Spy27 steel for a smoke test lol.
When I bought this M2 in Spy27, I had so many other things all going on at once, I didn't give this steel half a second to show me what it's about.
The driving force here, I can get this Spy27 in a Police4 and that is exactly what I am missing all together lol. So I am going to smoke test the Spy27 steel in the M2 I do have before I make any decisions about get it in a Police4.
I have quite a hoard of really nice Police4's that I have put G10 scales on that are flat awesome. The steel is where they may be a little extra to be had from going to the Spy27 steel, but I am not convinced yet!
Most of the Police4's I have are Micro Melt PD 1, so that is what I will be smoke testing the M2 in Spy27 against. I want to just see how much difference there is in these two steels. So the trials begin lol
I got to braid another lanyard for the M2-Spy27, I ain't packing it without one and I don't like change the lanyard from one knife to another. I really have some serious mental issues lol... I am most certainly my biggest problem-O!!! lol

Here is my M2 in Spy27 and a new lanyard I just got through with. It goes in a pocket now for a smoke test run against my Police4 in PD 1 Micro Melt lol. I will see just how much difference there is or not so much lol, I honestly don't know.
Then again I like to buy new knives anyway, and the Police4 in Spy27 is an expensive knife. I have new Keen double wide boots I just cracked out this morning also. UPS hit the dock here early lol. Think it was the certified letter for the wife's stuff at the bank, UPS doesn't usually run thus early, but it's a win for me this morning lol. My feet needed new boots lol

Well I gave my second new Manix2XL Salty to a guy yesterday, he has spyderco knives, just not a Manix of any size. He is a big guy and I think will find it like I have after getting my first one and messing around with it a little.

Very generous, Jeb!
Re: Jeb's pix and mods
Some new lanyards and key rings I just made up today. Nothing special all in the desert camo color paracord.

Edit: guess it was actually yesterday that I braided these and buffed out and flamed the bugs and birds, considering the time it is this morning now. Can't sleep just yet. Lol...

Re: Jeb's pix and mods
Here is my currestash of police 4's but I have a new Spy27 in this model in bound to add to the group.

Just looking as this posting and the pic I just shot, I see I have a few lanyards missing wow, not sure how I let that happen lol... must a slipped the chain on the cog lol.

Police 4
Blue FRN scales from the manufacturer so far, they have to grow on me, so far I just not a fan of this color.
Spy 27 steel.
The knife came in today early. The bevels were not at all even, out towards the point of the blade on one side had very little bevel. Was worried about that but it honed out at to 15 dps pretty darn well, so all is good...
The knife when closed was all to one side inside the grip of the knife, but I found all the screws just way loose. After tightening all of those, the knife is perfect centered.
The one real complaint I have is these Police4 knives are not drilled for a lanyard anymore. They use to have a 13/64" hole drilled or maybe the next size that was smaller but in a metric size, which is just to small to get a paracord lanyard pushed in it; so I would just drill out to a 7/32" size. No big deal.
Well now these knives are not drilled at all and there is plenty room to drill these and not have the blade on the lanyard when the knife closed. If I can drill these knives, the manufacturer should still be doing this...
I bent the tab or lip of the clip out like I do with all my clips. Honed the Spy27 steel to where I have pretty close bevels on each side of the blade and then brought those out to a polished finish. What bevels were on this blade looked like a 320 grit finish. Not a fan of that concept, even if it cuts better.
Anyway, I got a few pix of all this, before and after lol. Got a brandy new lanyard braided up and on the knife and it's in my pocket.

I like the color and the steel. I don't understand why this particular model isn't drilled for a lanyard either, but you have the tools and skills, so all good.

Re: Jeb's pix and mods
Looks good Jeb ! Just a wild guess , since the Police is such an early model and originally was only Stainless , I suspect that the design excluded the lanyard because it was felt that there was not a need for law enforcement. The butt was actually designed to apply to pressure points to bad guys so a lanyard may have not been considered for that reason . Just a wild guess guess on my part . Dan

Re: Jeb's pix and mods
Might have been, but all my others had a hole. This is the first that didn't. Just thought it was not right. The other side of that is if this was for law enforcement, they sure should have done a much better job on the bevels.
If this was a different brand and from China at 50 bucks, sure; just not my Spyderco brand. Times may be changing...

Re: Jeb's pix and mods
Really killer way to check how sharp your knife is, to roll up a cheap-O piece of Christmas wrapping paper the thin flimsy stuff, and see if you can slice into the tube from the side.
Didn't have a third hand to shoot the pic but I think this gets the point across...this new Spy27 Police4 is one more nasty crazy sharp razor lol...
I had to hone the heck out of it, when it came with one side out towards the tip of the blade with no bevel basically it was Shiney but no bevel lol...

Here is Lena at just a tic over 4 pounds now. She is a real problem lol. She already is chasing the wife's little Chihuahua's, which is not good lol. Those are the chosen ones around here, the rest of us are second class citizens...

She is beautiful. She sounds on the wild side, like quite a handful.
