SPY27 Serrated?

#1

Post by BeggarSo »

Spyderco, Sal, Eric, Besides the Dyad will we ever see any serrated models in this steel?

I have gained quit an appreciation for it in the Bodacious.

Hi BeggarSo,

The plan was to offer a serrated SPY27 straight spine Mule team as a regular item. I don't know if we've begun shipping them yet or what is it's current status. Probably best to call the SFO.

More serrated SPY27 will depend on demand? We generally try to make what you want. We'll watch the thread. what models would you want?

I would like to see it. I was the one that went to "Bobski", when he was at Crucible (Bob Sbitski is an exceptional metallurgist that worked at Crucible) and asked him to develop what ended up being SPY27. The material serves well as an all around EDC blade material and it can get very sharp.

I'd love one of the new PM2 in frn with the wire clip and a serrated SPY27 blade.

I'm sure you get one when it exists, and i would love it too.
Novice though I am, SPY27 seems great for SE.

This… but please, please, no more tumble finish. Satin SPY27 serrated LW PM2 would be AWESOME. My secret dream is a C07S old school Police in SPY27 with a Tuffram handle. The most iconic spydie ever deserves that treatment.🙏 A sprint maybe ?

I’m probably in the minority, but a Sprint Run Jester SE in SPY27 would be one that I would like!😬

The PM2 lwt sounds like a perfect fit for the SPY27 in SE . I wouldn’t turn down a SE Manix 2 in lwt. or G10 in the steel . MG2

To make the Police4 or maybe even the new 5" in Spy27 would certainly get my money. In PE and/or SE...

Not sure what happened to my reply but here we go.

MILITARY
PM2
PARA 3
SAGE 6
Native
Native Chief
Delica
BODACIOUS
Bodacious front half serrated only.
Stretch2 XL
Canis and also in PE
Manix2 XL
Hundred Pacer in PE Also seriously need a rerelease of this one. Just imagine that diamond checkered handle in blue.
Smock that would be so cool.

The smaller knives really punch above their weight when Serrated. Stretch out the serrations and you get a much larger cutting edge out of them.

Also the tips in SE are chisel ground something I wish were done with the PS blades that Chisel grind is just so sharp and the sharpmaker would be perfect for these models in this steel.

I like Spy27, but not sure I would go with it over a Magnacut or LC200N spyderedge. Or the XHP in the Chap SE even. Then again, i am no serration expert like some here.

I think SPY 27 would have better edge retention than Magnacut or LC2OON, maybe not better corrosion resistance but I rarely need extreme corrosion resistance.

I was just thinking this the other day. Would definitely buy a FRN PM2 in SPY27 SE. Would also love to see it on Seki stuff, as I already love my Police 4 in SPY27... SE would be insane. Endura as well, FFG SE SPY27 would kick it up a notch from the VG-10 CE Endura I already enjoy in the Thin Blue Line edition, and the Endela FFG SE would also be very fun. Of course a Delica. And I'll throw my hat into the ring on that Jester :grin-sweat

My answer to which model I'd like to see in SPY27 SE, is simply "Yes"

When it comes to serrations, toughness is paramount. H1 is the best example. As much as I like SPY27, in the spyderedge configuration LC and especially Magnacut are the top dogs.

Toughness is not paramount, I have had H1 teeth bend breaking down a bird. I think H1 is awesome for Salt water and has spectacular toughness, zi have seen pictures of it bent in a vice, you probably cant break it.

Toughness is not the only metric. I wonder if we could get the Australian guy to take the 3 steels in serrated edge and put them to task I know H1 is like a test king but it would be interesting to see, mind you I am guessing when it comes to SPY27 serrations as I dont have any but I still think it would do better than Magnacut or LC200N neither hold an edge as well in PE Neither have impressed me in Serrations either, S30V is still very hard to beat with serrations.

I am not saying toughness is “the only metric” I am just saying that toughness is paramount. I am a spyderedge fanatic and I tested all these steels(except spy 27) in real life. H1 in spyderedge rules them all. It’s a different animal than in plain edge. My Jumpmaster 2 in H1 has no competition. It destroyed all other steels in spyderedge in my tests. S30V was the worst. I bet both Magnacut and LC200N will outcut SPY27 in spyderedge. You have “interesting” experiences with steels, different than most people here. I remember you affirming in a thread about steels that both Magnacut and Cruwear “lack” edge retention. Really ?! I am not quite an expert in Magnacut but I used and tested Cruwear extensively and to say that it “lacks” edge retention is just… unreal.
