Heck, I was hoping to see a few others choices here V... I guess you and I are it lol. I have given several of mine away but at this point in time I use two basically.

To profile or even re-profile a blade I been using my WorkSharp Professional system. I really like the digital protractor that came with this, it allows me to figure out what bevel degree things are more precisely and can repeat them. Know exactly what I re-profile blades.

I have made several sets of the slide bushings that this hone plate holder slides on. WorkSharp makes their from plain cheap-o nylon. I made new and much improved bearing grade Torlon.

The Torlon has been awesome and stopped all the trouble anyone that has and uses one of these systems. The problem with Torlon Is how much it costs, then the machine work to make the two bushings.

WorkSharp is not a company like Spyderco, that listens to their end users, they just like to sell you the replacement parts lol. I presented them with all the data I had on this and by making those two nylon bushings from Torlon they would have no more problems. I was quickly dismissed lol...

I to date have several locals running the WorkSharp system with my Torlon bushings and everyone loves them.

When using my WorkSharp system now, I will squirt a little of the alcohol on the slide rod and let it run down into the two bushings in the slide. Works awesome now...

I have bought three extra hones in 1200, 2000 and 3000 grit that takes it on out to the bigger leather strop that I added to this system and have the 7 micron and the 1.5 micron compound that I use on each side of it.

I have also added extra hones in each of the different grits that it comes with 200,300,400,600 and 800. A ceramic hone and it has a leather strop that I got an extra and got the green and white compound for those. Which I will add that I very seldom use them anymore, since getting the bigger one that I use by hand. Here are a few pix of these.

Once I have my bevels established at the angle I want, I use my 3X8" DMT hones and the cheap-O plastic hone plate holder I have.

I bought the four different grits that I am aware of, that they have. Extra coarse, coarse, fine and extra fine. These four and the holder work pretty good on blades as well as firearms I will hone and blueprint parts for.

I never use anything here mentioned above dry either. I use Isopropyl alcohol on all hones with the exception of the strop. I find the alcohol drys as it drips in the floor of the shop floor and doesn't make the mess that water does/has lol... here is a pic of my most used hone system, the DMT...

Image

Now, that all typed; I do still have some very old oil stones around here. I have had since I was a teenager. Just thought I would hang onto them and the wood box it cam in. I also have a set of ceramic sticks and the angled wood block. Have not used these in years.

The rest of the stuff I had I gifted to my cousins kid. There was an edge pro system that I had modified to use the same 1X6" hone plates as my WorkSharp system and added a full set of those when he got it.

It's a good system now, jimo. But only since I modified it to the better hones of the WorkSharp system. I find myself always modifying everything lol. I tend to break stuff and/or find ways I like better lol.

Caribbean - Was a yellow & black Bumblebee, has since been made Green & Black. Has LC200N steel honed to 15 dps. Great little knife. Has a good grip and feel in the paw.

Very nice, Jeb. I guess I'm in the minority as a fan of the original colors, but I'd surely carry that one too.

Thanks CabFrank, you know I really like the LC200N steel more than I ever thought I would too. I have a couple of knives with this steel now.

They just don't see lots of pocket time and only because of the shorter blade length lol. I am so set on my longer and bigger blades.

I really have no business buying any knife with a blade much shorter than the Manix 2XL has... yet I have acquired quite the collection of these little munchkins and I really like each and everyone, I just don't edc them.

Well the weather is starting to set in and around these parts. So I took time to hone these two knives of mine. Then I frog lube the blades. These two hone out really sharp.
The Police4 has been honed enough now that it's a given, it's a razor lol. The Shaman Salt, not there just yet. It's the second time after cut a mountain of boxes and some old carpet yesterday.

So I spent extra time on the Shaman getting it ridiculously razor like. I just really love this new Aggressive textured scales on these Salt series.

A 5" Police with these scales would be awesome. They are really easy to hang onto with your paw. The 5" would be the perfect knife for the blackwidow to come out. Just say'n lol

Dan,

It is a munchkin lol. I like it, it's just that its a munchkin. It's like so many of the different designs that Spyderco has, and I get the why they are so small, it would just be awesome if they made them in full grown size too.

The Smock is one and/or the Sage 6 these are great knives, they would be even better if they had them in the bigger size too.

But then, I am the very guy that wants the Police4 in a bigger size as well lol. I just like the bigger knives. I even liked the bigger knives when I got my first pocket knife when I was a really young brat running around under feet and in the way lol.

Most of those back then didn't have a lock on the blade, sure like my blade locks now, not so big on the linerlocks, but I like my good strong locks.

Yes, got to have my lanyards on my knives too. Heck I had my first knife with a lanyard many years ago as well. Just flat out don't want my knife without one now, been to many years and to many knives with the lanyards and I just flat like what they do for me. Get the idea I have lots of rules lol...

Here is a pic of my neighbor across the road, you can see his hanger and his windsock clearly enough but we have this freezing stuff falling and it's 8 degrees here right now and a pretty nasty north wind.

It's about as cold here as I have ever seen it. You guys up in the north are way better equipped for this sort of weather, but guys if it's this cold here, you all must really have some nasty Temps up there.

Whoa ! Your neighbor has a plane ? Fantastic neighborhood ! Have a good friend ( farmer ) who has two , a Cessna and a one seater open cockpit . Love flying occasionally with him checking out fields . He likes to remind me of the time we totaled his 66 Nova SS 400 HP and walked away with a few bruises. Glad you have your rules , that means you enjoy your knives and have boundaries ! Life is good ! Dan

Well he doesn't have a plane anymore, he is a retired helicopter pilot from the local AeroCare first responder and rescue. When he retired he sold all his flying equipment for the most part.

He has a host of his restored old classic cars and trucks in there now. Quite a list of old classics that he adds to when he finds somethinghe likes lol. That and some helicopter parts that are pretty neat too. He has a tail rotor that I told him I wanted to incorporate it in with that wind sock. I made him the windsock frame and base and swivel.

Freaking temp here now has dropped to 9 degrees. Unreal how cold it is around these parts. Heck with our weather around here, next week we could see the 70's too lol.

It's 6 degrees here at 1:30AM and dropping... they say we're going to be several degrees below 0 in the morning at sunrise.

We are not use to that kind of low Temps lol. Going to have all sorts of problems from that sort of Temps around here. I got heater on the water well and another on the header and pressure tank for just in case.

Not lived here at this place but 15 years now, I think; but weain't ever seen this cold before. All my water lines are 2' deep, so I know they are OK.

We got right at 6" of snow here, which Lord knows we need the moisture but not this sort of cold with it lol. Here is a pic the wife shot of me out front, with the neighbors place across the road.

I grew up in an area where cold like happened every so often. It's not fun, and even less if you're not used to it. Hang in there. Stay inside as much as you can and take it easy.

It’s 6:22 AM and temp is -4 F . Here is old tip . Turn cold on faucets to a slow drip and open doors below sinks to allow warm air to circulate under sink . Especially sinks against outside walls . Be safe !

Well after Dan posted up his Knipex up the other day, made me go get my collection with the exception of one size between the largest set and the next size in the pic which are basically a 12" size. Those are in one of my trucks out in the back of my place and it's to muddy to go get them right now lol.

If you look at the largest size, in the jaws with them at the largest setting but full closed shut, my little Shaman sets right in that opening, which is almost 5"...

At the other end of the Knipex pliers I have my Police4 laying beside these smallest size I have. These are all awesome tools, going to have to get me a set of their regular pliers to try also. I figure them to be no exception.

I got a couple of Manix 2XL Salts in the black Trench Coat coming this next week. Looking quite forward to those two knives. Been a long wait for those, least it seems to have been.

Made a lanyard for the Manix 2XL Salt Black Bumblebee coming the next week, I know I'm going to be putting one of them in my pocket lol...

Pic doesn't work showing off the lanyard, to much of the same colors, just what I had handy. The loop is right at 2 and a 1/4", that fits really nice on my Spyderco. The length of rope I start with is 82"...

Manix 2XL Black Bumblebee Salties in MagnaCut steel. These two knives could not be made more alike in a manufacturing setup either... very impressive knives...

Now I got to hone one out to 15 dps and of coarse polish the bevels lol. I don't care if the polished bevels don't cut as good, I just like my edge polished out to the 9's...
