has anyone tried the mini frenzy?

I'm in the mood for a new wharncliffe folder, and a slim carrying 3V folder with a 4" blade sounds nice.

Probably going to be one of these or another Yojumbo. Open to other suggestions too.

I have also looked at the Frenzy . I rarely stray to other brands but the Frenzy size really appeals to me . Dan

I have a Rajah 2 and Voyager XL on order. We're going to test out how much I like mega folders.

I recently took out all my SRK, SRKC and Recon Tanto users. Touched them up and thinned them out as needed.

Image

L to R: B.O.B. Recon, my oldest Recon (pre GSM SK5), stripped OD recon, stripped pre GSM SK5 SRK, OD SRK, FDE 3V SRK convexed, convexed SRKC, 3V SRKC, OD SRKC, stripped SRKC with primary grind heavily thinned on a belt sander (note how thin the flat of the saber grind is vs the 3v)

The OD Recon is my favorite woods knife these days. The thinned and polished edge carves great. The stripped SK5 SRKC's and SRK's were all taken thin enough to out carve a Mora. All of them were taken to 2,000 grit. The ones with the coating on all have coarser edges, 300-600 grit.

I've got a lot more in my back-ups bin....pre-gsm copies of all three, a few OD 3V SRK's, CE SRK's, FDE examples etc. Hoping to track down a 3V Recon Tanto someday

Good looking knife! I've got a tanto PE Voyager from the same era I'm carrying today. While I love the tri-ad lock, the craftsmanship on those regular lockbacks was very good.

Yeah the original Voyagers were great, nice and light and the locks just worked very well.

The hollow ground blades cut VERY well too.

Just got a Recon 1 Mini spearpoint --not as slicey as a Delica, and not available in exciting steels or colorful handles, but not bad for the price.

I have a couple of SRKs in 3V and a Recon Tanto in SK5. The R/T is surprisingly sharp and is good for everything. Handles very well despite the good blade length.

Wish the handles on the SRK and R/T would have been a bit longer though.

Would you like it if the blade was 3.5 inches?

Have y'all seen that the 5Max Scout is coming to market!?

It will be interesting to see where the street price settles in- in a year or two.

yep. I'm going to keep an eye out on this one. the 4 max is one of my favorite carries these days. but with the 4max scout being $40-55 the 5max will need to get well below $200 for me to bite.

That thing sure grabbed my attention.
It seem to do a lot right. Like it manages to strike a balance between being both a practical tool and a true Cold Steel product. But I kind of feel they were a bit too proportional with the scaling. I think I'd be more enthusiastic if the made the handle, blade and not least the primary grind a bit taller.

I'll let you guys on the cheap side of the pond play with it and share your thoughts before I make any decision.

Looks sharp!

I keep meaning to order one of those but it slips my mind. I think ACK has a few right now. I think it'd be cool owning their first folder, and it looks like something I'd actually carry once in a while too.

You ever carry yours or is it a collection piece for you?

I have a Recon 1 spearpoint.

There's a place and appropriate use for either model.

Cool. I figured you knew about them and would be waiting for the street price to drop a bit.

Pretty sure the 5Max won't be for me. I'm still getting used to the 4Max, Voyager XL, and Rajah 2. They all play in a completely different arena than my Spydercos do. We'll see how my use patterns adapt.

Let's get some love going here for the Cold Steel Finn Wolf. Any handle color. It is a beautiful family of knives within the Cold Steel Family.

I have carried a Cold Steel Finn Wolf and a Spyderco Endura and a Spyderco Byrd Wharncliffe together.

How would you improve the Finn Wolf?

Lynn Thompson said the Finn Wolf is basically a folding Puukko.

Anyone have personal experience with the Espada XL? Looking at the fancy polished up version with S35VN. Just something about it lately. Definitely not practical but I think it'd be fun to have.
