Oddball blade steels
Re: Oddball blade steels
It’s going to be a massively popular steel, so imo something mass appealing. I like the idea of the forest green suggested, but i think OD green would be great as well. How about black?
Re: Oddball blade steels
Sage Green my vote, if it's safe for me to make a post. I am just excited to see what knives they bring the MagnaMax out in...
Re: Oddball blade steels
I'm in for green too. Whether a new shade for Spyderco or bringing back the foliage green G10 used in the late 2000's.

So darker than the "Maxamet-grey"?
That'd be cool indeed...

Re: Oddball blade steels
Not going to lie, the Maxamet G-10 grey is pretty great, it would be my second choice after a dark forest green.
Endura AUS-8, Manix 2 S30V, Manix 2 LW MagnaCut, BBB 15V Manix 2, BBB 15V Para 3 LW, Alcyone BD1N, PM2 Micarta Cruwear, Native 5 Maxamet (2nd), Para 3 Maxamet (2nd), Magnacut Mule, Z-Wear Mule, REC Para 3 10V, Pacific Salt SE H2, Dragon Fly SE H2, Chaparral SE XHP, Shaman Burlap S90V, Bodacious SPY27, Manix 2 LW 15v, Sage 5 REX-121 LW.
Re: Oddball blade steels
I'll second the maroon or some kind of purple suggestions. Existing PD#1 sprints and DLT exclusives may make getting the right shade a bit tricky? (Personally I love the PD#1 burgundy and would not at all complain if it was just re-used.)
Also ok with something on the forest/ranger/sage green. A darker or burnt gold was also suggested, which I like, but I know is tricky to get right and polarizing if it gets too burnt/too much brown in it.
White or bright red would be a major turn-off, sorry. Don't want flash, don't want to have to immediately jump into a DIY project to fix the white. Would definitely slow down my purchases knowing I would have to mess with that from the start. Kinda like how I still don't own any Spyderco magnacut since my only choices are bright yellow, or a coated stainless blade.

Re: Oddball blade steels
If it were anything too bright, I would probably save using it for garden or beach and not carry it generally. While white/ivory could be easily re-colored, I also find it easier to mark up like the ivory damas urban I used to have; one of the reasons I got rid of it. I wouldn't object to a deep rich green. It's not so bright as to draw attention to itself, but not as sinister as plain black either.

Brian offered some wise advice in that; Any color might be offensive and a deal breaker for some ELU's. So any color would be good, but also offer black?

Re: Oddball blade steels
Magnacut did not get a dedicated scale color and I actually prefer that. Honoring Larrin's work should be purely about the steel IMO. Maybe add Larrin's knife steel nerds logo to the blade?
Edit: Similar to 15V with Sean's logo.

I’m still standing by my Ferrari red but looks like I got voted off the island lol. I imagine classy/understated to be something like that ‘blue jeans denim micarta look, something to blend in to a pair of pants.Steelearner wrote: ↑Tue Jan 20, 2026 11:57 amYes, something not too flashy to wear every day. I like the understated and classy look.
I still want a bright red/satin combo though

The "denim micarta" suggestion is great. I loved the look of that Rex76 sprint. If it was adapted to G10 and FRN, a grayish blue slate color would be very nice. I also like the suggestions for earthy greens.
Having said all of that, black is still what I usually like best.

Re: Oddball blade steels
I would not say any color would be good, but no color would be horrible. I would stay more muted, natural, neutral. I love the idea of a dark green (my choice), but a tan, brown or grey would all be nice.
Pick a standard color that works for most, let the knife resellers make spirts in all the fancy colors they want. You want red, St Nicks can make one, its "their" color.
Black is great, no one at all can argue with it, it works. But like MangaCut, K390, Maxamet, SPY27, etc, MagnaMax needs something special, a dark green that stands out just a little bit to accompany a stand out steel, MagnaMax.
Endura AUS-8, Manix 2 S30V, Manix 2 LW MagnaCut, BBB 15V Manix 2, BBB 15V Para 3 LW, Alcyone BD1N, PM2 Micarta Cruwear, Native 5 Maxamet (2nd), Para 3 Maxamet (2nd), Magnacut Mule, Z-Wear Mule, REC Para 3 10V, Pacific Salt SE H2, Dragon Fly SE H2, Chaparral SE XHP, Shaman Burlap S90V, Bodacious SPY27, Manix 2 LW 15v, Sage 5 REX-121 LW.
Re: Oddball blade steels
How about a Sprint to introduce the MagnaMax steel, as you did with S45VN Forrest Green Diamond Arc? Drop a few of the Golden flagship models in a special G10 handle color, maybe a couple FRN lightweights (PM2 LW, Native 5 LW, Para3 LW) as well. I'd love to see a crimson red as was used in the bottom layer of the Ci Commemorative PM2, but perhaps a darker green with the diamond arc CNC would be nice.
Then incorporate MagnaMax into anything that works.

Popular new car colors are clay, which is darker than the maxamet gray handles, and charcoal black, not quite black.
A deep woods green is good.

Another vote for green, preferably darker shade.
