I have been pushing for an XL Ikuchi or “Kracken” for a while. the design is amazing and I will buy one. I hope it is LC200N or magna cut and be a high class “Salt” knife for average to large hands.

As long as the increase in size doesn't interfere with the mechanics, I'm up for any Ikuchi variant. I edc mine all the time when I'm not carrying one of the other heavy-rotation crowd (OG Chap, Sydiechef, Green forum Native 5. beater ZDP Delica).

I steered away from the Ikuchi, nice as it is, because it has a neutral blade-angle and it substitutes a different means for opening. At least my Des Horn has the latter…

I doubt the Ikuchi’s elongation will offer the negatively-angled blade and the thumb-hole opener that I have come to expect in my Spydies, so I voted no in the poll.

To me, these two features distinguish Spyderco’s brand and claims on performance; they must not together be lost in favor of other ideas. Again, just me in the cheap seats talkin’.

i understand what you mean. it's definitely a departure from spyderco's norm. that's part of the reason i like it though. i get spyderco's attention to detail in the design and taichung quality in a knife that tucks away so nicely in the pocket that it works well as a dress up knife. it sits about half as wide as a delica in the pocket, rides much deeper, and still packs in quite a bit more blade length. it's also a crazy slicer and just a joy to cut with.
keep your knife sharp and your focus sharper.

I love my Ikuchi & although I voted “no” I hope that those who want an XL get one.

For me, the joy of the Ikuchi is as much about it’s size as it’s deployment & other qualities.

The current S30v is fine by me, as well.

I guess I am weird, but I always thought that the Ikuchi should have been a little smaller, not bigger …

Do James Williams sensei proud and make it Otanashi size. He practically gifted me this one, for which I am eternally grateful. It's a traditional tanto from the izuri school if memory serves. Similar to the Ikuchi and also product of Taiwan, though mine is likely made in Japan going by the markings. Some people mentioned DLC blade on here so that could work. But as most of us know by now, nothing beats a satin finish. :winking-tongue

I voted yes but that's only if the blade were 4 inches or longer.

Yes. I think this knife is a work of art.

I also considered it for 5th pocket EDC. How about this idea.... an XL and a mini?

What a cool 5th pocket EDC design. Quick deploy, absolute laser slicer.

Whether XL, or mini, what blade length would you guys want in a new sized Ikuchi? For me it would be 4 inches.

Still waiting on a sprint or exclusive run of the original.
This is exactly why I have no interest in an xl.

I voted no the one I had and sold had a tip that when closed cut me. Maybe that got CQI and they dont do that anymore?

The knife was something I really liked but one that cuts the user when closed is a failure in design in my book.

Cover that tip better when closed and sure I would go for one but have a hard time thinking an XL in something that thin is a great idea.

Then again I only like the Manix XL and the Stretch XL all other versions not at all.

I would love to see XL versions of pretty much any design cooperation Spyderco does, especially the Taiwanese models... I'd be all over a Kapara XL or a larger version of the Spydiechef, certainly the Ikuchi as well.

Just naturally I consider any knife with a sub 4 inch blade a "small" knife, so... yeah, XL for me any day.

Have one. Never carried it. Not a fan of flippers. Ikuchi claim to fame is its compact nature. Making the design larger negates that.

I forgot that I had even voted in this poll.

YES, I would buy this XL if it were close to 3.90 to 4.10 in blade length.

An Ikuchi XL strikes me as very Cold Steel-esque in concept.

True. Cold Steel makes decent XL knives. Cold Steel's XLs generally have a 5+ inch blade.

Several forum participants that buy Spyderco and Cold Steel knives. I buy from a lot of different manufacturers, handle them and see what I think. If I buy a knife that I find underwhelms me, I sell it without using it.

Most of my knives are Spyderco.
