Anyone have thoughts or an idea how the Manix Salt dropped in weight ? A standard G10 model weighs in at 4.9 ounces and the Salt version comes in at 4.2 ounces . Thinner scales with the cuts , different liners ? ...
As far as I know only the "base" 30V model of the G10 Manix weighs in at 4.9 ounces, all the others (like S110V, see here https://spyderco.com/products/manix%C2%AE-2-cpm-s110v) come in at 4.2, just like the Salt.

This is cause the S30V model has "full" liners while the liners on the rest of the G10 line are skeletonized
Top three going by pocket-time (update October 25):
- EDC: Endela SE (K390). Endela SE (VG10), Manix 2 LW (REX45)
- Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1)

Thanks Gernot . I missed looking at the S110V variant so this makes sense . Thank you ! Dan

I'm still looking forward to the Charisma. It's small so it'll vanish in a pocket, super thin to be a great slicer, but long enough to perform simple tasks and give sufficient hand clearance AND it won't cost the world.

It is only the "base model" Manix 2 that weighs 4.9 oz. The sprints, exclusives, salt, s110v etc all have weight relief cutouts in the liners and weigh about 4.2 oz.

The Crucarta Manix 2 also has full liners and weighs @4.9 oz.

The SPY27 has skeletonized liners and the @4.2 oz. weight.

CQI them all to the lower weight.

I agree. After hefting around the G10/S30V Manix 2, and feeling the Salt, the Salt is so much better balanced. And the handle scales give it a premium feel. It's hard to appreciate it without first having a little experience with either the LW Manix 2s which feel 'handle light', or the fully non weight relieved G10 version which is 'handle heavy'. This is the goldilocks of Manix knives and the price point (especially from some of these retailers) make it absolutely one of the best buys, Spyderco-wise, by a long shot. I have a feeling it is going to be a very popular knife, and for good reason.

I did one like that too. Straight spine shaman and I did a regrind to thin it and brought the edge back further into the choil
That is a nice reprofile and I like how you removed the nub. I know some people can't stand the nub coming back at them through the top of the lock, but I'm now used to it. Still, I think no nub is better. Nice work!

Speaking of a premium Edgerati, Spyderco had a peel ply carbon fiber version at BLADE Show. It felt really nice.
Carbon fiber in the skeletonized handle? Hmm, sounds really interesting. I wonder if there are good sources of US-made titanium and just what it would look like to have them milled. The standard peel ply texture (Smock, Canis, Sage 6, etc) I like, but I think I've learned I'm not a huge smooth carbon fiber type of guy. Or titanium, for that matter lol. Titanium just sounds so good in the Edgerati.

Yep, it was the same skeletonized handle just in solid peel ply carbon fiber. If I recall correctly, it had the peel ply texture they use on their solid carbon fiber/S90v sprints opposed to the peel ply texture they use on their CF/G10 laminate scales.

They've made a number of titanium models in Golden in the past, so I'm sure they could source some for an Edgerati too. It would be pricey but it would be such a nice piece! Also, the Edgerati scales are fully machined as is, so a titanium version would make a lot of sense.

I still think there is a lot of potential with the aluminum scales. The anodizing possibilities are endless! I've said it in the past too but I really think Spyderco should do more anodized aluminum scales. The color and patterns can be easily controlled and the colors can be so much more vibrant than titanium anodizing.

The Edgerati is finally being shipped. It took a lot longer than planned or hoped for, but it's here. While the model is really a variation of the Shaman, like the Bodacious, it was different enough to have its own "Spirit".

We'll need to watch and listen to you to see what and where to go next.

Interesting thoughts already. BTW, We do have a Carbon Fiber prototype. The triangle "button" lock release is an interesting thought. (Red Leader).

I'm really proud of Eric and the "Golden Knife-Makers". They did a great Job. It's king of an interesting design. There have been a few similar predecessors, "Q", "R", etc. Just a more serious user.

I was a big fan of the R. The Edgerati has been on pre-order at my french store since the minimeet.

I never bought a Shaman and am not that into the Bodacious. The Edgerati has a good reason to exist : I am buying this one ! It is different enough to make me like it.
:respect In the collection :respect : Lots of different steels, in lots of different (and same) Spydercos.

My Edgerati is alleged to be delivered on Wednesday by UPS and I'm quite excited about it! I agree, an "Edgerati-ized" Bodacious would be awesome. The Bodacious is the better knife, imo; my Shaman sees very little carry time since I got a Bodacious.

I am also hoping the Starmate is released soon, preferably ahead of the January price hikes.. I certainly don't love it when a knife's price increases before it's even released. Hah, I've boycotted purchasing the Swick 5 for that very reason.. pretty sure its price increased twice from announcement to delayed release.. anyways.. enough ranting.. Looking forward to some exciting new stuff on the horizon!

Rick, I haven't been around long enough to know if this is a thing, but is it a thing, usually each January?

I definitely give credit where credit is due, as we saw some price decreases, specifically on the Bodacious and the Lil' Temperance 3, maybe others as well?

I'm curious about how the Balance did at it's pricepoint, as well as how the new Fatcarbon Chaparral, Starmate, and Bodacious S90V will do when they release. While I completely understand if Spyderco sticks to a certain margin across the board (although I don't really know if this is the case), I know that these ones, as well as the basic Shaman (and now also the lightweight) are some of the biggest targets in people's complaints about the prices.

Others, like the Dyad Jr, the Lil' Native Lightweight, and the new Manix 2 Salt are all awesome for the price. Most things Golden + <$200 is a win.

Yes, it's usually within the first week or two of January, iirc. The amount of the increase depends on the year and they play with MSRP and MAP numbers and percentages.. throughout the early 2020s it was, I want to say, a roughly 5-7% increase in end cost to the user across the board each year.. but they have been pretty marginal over the last year or two, if memory serves. And you are correct, there were actually decreases last year, though that is not usually the norm..

I get it.. prices go up. It stings regardless, but when a knife gets announced in the spring-time at a certain price, then is released at a higher price because it's delayed into a new calendar year.. idk.. just feels like salt in the wound haha. Is what it is, I guess.. I will still be going after a Starmate in January hah! Mostly, I agree with you that prices are generally reasonable and Spyderco does what they can to make things makes sense..

There’s definitely price resistance once the price of a knife goes above $200 and a lot more at around $250+.

One might say that the Spyderco Edgerati with S30V and Aluminum scales is priced too high at $247.50 but the Benchmade 940 with S30V and Aluminum scales is also $240.00.

For what it's worth, there may be some variations out there. My S110V Manix 2 has the full liners, but it came from a seconds sale 2 years ago so it's possible it's from an earlier/pre-CQI run of the same model before they started doing the nested liners. I may just weigh it for fun when I get to the knife cave this evening.

SMKW had an exclusive Benchmade 940 with sv90 for 199. I got mine when they also were giving away a free Kershaw. I sold it so final cost was $185. Weights 1 gram more than a Para 3 lw with a longer blade than a Para 2. I agree with pricing all knife sales have slowed way down. I have more than I’ll ever need purchased for great prices I’m very selective now.

You know I've heard that comment a few times, about things slowing down. For me it has been the opposite - last year around October is when I first just started getting back into the hobby, and before that it was never really as passionate as it is now, so I think there is probably new blood coming in all the time. But I could see the trend being that things are slower. I wonder where is goes from here.

I can definitely see a Manix 2 Salt in my future, what a great knife that is. A true one-and-done for someone who doesn't yet have a collection built up. I'm not necessarily a 'collector', but I do tend to pick up things that are really interesting to me and have some sort of utility. But so far, other than that, I haven't been able to really pin down too much of a theme yet.

Looks like the Starmate is dropping?

We might be headed to the SFO this weekend and if so, and they have it, I'll try to get some pictures. The curious part will be the pricepoint on that one.
