I agree Dave and removing hood to sharpen is nothing compared to benefits one enjoys using the hood . Dan

Re: Nothing Like the Old Days
It already works as a Wave opener if you're not careful. It's not as effective for that on the Assist, but it certainly opened my ATR unexpectedly a few times.Evil D wrote: ↑Sat Dec 06, 2025 5:10 amsal wrote: ↑Fri Dec 05, 2025 7:02 pmThanx for the input. When we created the "Cobra Hood", it was to make it easier for some that had difficulty with just the hole, and for gloved hands. There were some issues with performance and sales were quetsonable. Maybe if it were smaller and shaped differently?

My only real concern is if they get in the way of sharpening, and/or lower angle sharpening but if they're attached with a screw then I can take them off for this.
And for all the reasons you mentioned is why I think they're brilliant, they aid you in opening, they make the thumb ramp itself more comfortable to use hard, I think just about the only other thing you could have them do is stick up and also act as an Emerson Wave hook but that might be infringing on the patent too much.

Yes, I use IWB often, but not when carrying a pack with a wide padded belt.

Early Starmate. I like that the upcoming Sprint is so similar in design to this one.

Re: Nothing Like the Old Days
Great knife. I wanted to find an older one .. but alas the asking rates these days are beyond budget esp in December.
I would still like to find a C15 or C19 (classic early collab models) and a C174 (double bevel) in good condition someday.

My white whale was the Ocelot. I finally found one, but the blade edge was/is a wreck...which made it barely affordable. But, it taught me that I suck at sharpening serrated edges.
Re: Nothing Like the Old Days
Another great knife and hard to find. Hopefully another one finds you some day.

same here. It's fun seeing the models that were current back in the 2000's when I got into the brand.
those original lil temps were ridiculously ergonomic. I'm going to grab one off the secondary market some day, even though I tend to prefer longer blades in my folders.

@8th_Note & @vivi, thank you

Yes, the original Lil’ Temperances are very ergonomic. Hand filling but comfortable. I think they are not easy to find on the secondary market nowadays, particularly the trailing point version.vivi wrote: ↑Wed Dec 10, 2025 12:05 pmsame here.
