The Last Gun You Bought
Re: The Last Gun You Bought
For AR optics you've got sound advice above. I'll also comment and say try them out if possible.
I love my 2 aimponts, but I have about a dozen primary arms red dots in various flavors too. They take a beating and just keep on running for a fifth of the cost of an aimpoint. The md25 series are my favorite and for a passive NV optic they can't be beat in the price range.
My go to optics though are acogs usually a ta31 with a rmr on top in a QD mount. You really get the best of both worlds in a light bomb proof package. I also have vortex 5x prisms with a primary arms rs10 red dot on top. Not every gun needs an acog and the vortex is a third of the cost and does an excellent job.

I don't own any firearms, and don't necessarily plan to. If I ever do, maybe someday I'll get a Glock 40, which I've used at a gun range.
Anyway, I saw this video and wondered what people think of it. Not sure how comfortable it would be.

There is one for sale on Gunbroker.com for $1,900.
Absolutely no way would I consider one of these.
Even if it was $190.

That's a beauty. Looks stout enough for .44 mag but I see it's a .44 special. I understand a lot of handloaders hot-rod their .44 specials well into magnum ranges. With that grip and heavy frame, it must be a dream to shoot.

Elmer Keith had a lot to do with the development of the 44 Magnum , handloading the Special . A really fun read is his autobiography “ H*** I Was There “ . Quite a character . Dan

I agree. That [Elmer Kieth] books is a great one.
Not super common last time I looked, but is still out there.
My last firearm was (is) a synthetic CZ457 in 17HMR, put CZ rings on it & a Vortex something or other in those rings/atop said rifle.
I can easily keep all my shots in just 1/3 of a penny (a penny is 0.75 inch diameter)at a lazered 50 yards from prone. Man I love me some CZ.

Just got back from having cataract surgery on my left eye, had it on my right eye two weeks ago (11/11). Procedure was a breeze, both eyes!
I went and shot 120 rounds at the end of last week knowing I wouldn’t be shooting again for at least a couple of weeks. My right eye was wayyy worse than my left, I long forgot what it was like shooting with crystal clear vision, and last week my right eye wasn’t even close to being healed up! This was from 10 yards.

I love those CZs! They are just a solid accurate platform.
I bought a TX22 since they have a FRT for them. So breaking it in before I mess with the FRT parts.
Also I'm getting ready for my Lima Six to ship next month... takes me about 2 hours to link 500 rounds lol.

Re: The Last Gun You Bought
Is this true? A gun video I saw claimed short barrel rifles emit bullets with more power but longer barrel weaoons emit bullets with more precision.

Re: The Last Gun You Bought
As a rule, the way I have always understood it was that for most rifles, longer barrels allow the pressures to exert more force on the projectile. This does affect both accuracy as well as projectile energy. The decision between short and long barrels is much like that between knife steels, a tradeoff of advantages and disadvantages. @SpyderEdgeForever

This little guy was the last thing I bought after the Glock 19. It weighs next to nothing and is chambered for 9mm Makarov. It's a fairly rare adaptation for this cartridge. But I like the Makarov cartridge better than the Browning 9mm. And now I carry only this one all the time. From a distance of 15 meters, all 6 bullets always hit the pack of cigarettes without missing. The Magnum and the Glock are all in the safe. And, of course, at least one Spyderco is always with me.

I have a couple ARs, but I don't live in a free state. They've recently been banned. I had one set up for home defense (red dot, suppressor). Should I ever have to use a gun in home defense, I do NOT want to fight for my life with the local DA after fighting for my life against someone he protects. As such, the AR is put away until I flee to a free state. My last purchase was a Marlin 1894. It hasn't been banned, is "almost" acceptable in this state, and it'll take a suppressor.

Re: The Last Gun You Bought
I had a bad antique gun habit, but COVID stopped me dead in my tracks. I ended up selling ten or so and have been mostly a window-shopper ever since.
Last summer my Father passed away and left his four children with a pile of rifles and handguns to divvy up. I ended up with two hunting rifles: Remington 700 .243 WIN with a Leupold Scope, and a Remington 660 .308 WIN with a Weaver scope. Also, a CZ45 1948 Czech pistol and a 1930's S&W top break 38. We never knew that he had the S&W, so I'm guessing it belonged to my Grandfather; however, it's all speculation.
I'm mainly an antique revolver collector, so at some point I'll pick up a registered .357 S&W. That's my white whale.

Sorry to hear about your Father, no amount of words here could express how much I miss my Dad!HolySteel wrote: ↑Sat Dec 06, 2025 2:44 pmI had a bad antique gun habit, but COVID stopped me dead in my tracks. I ended up selling ten or so and have been mostly a window-shopper ever since.

Post a pic of that CZ45 when you get a chance please.
Re: The Last Gun You Bought
Thanks. I feel like I was better with it than a lot of people. I got the call Friday at 8:00am, from my Brother. Twenty minutes later I got the call from the vet telling me that my dog needed to be put down. So the next day I put my dog down and the following afternoon I was on an airplane to see my Mom. It was a whirlwind crazy weekend, but it was just me and Mom for almost a month, getting her moved into and settled in a retirement home, so I had to spend most of my mental energy on that. She just turned 90 and is very happy.
That CZ45 was a 'throw in' item - no one knew what it was or really wanted it, so I got it. Turns out to be a very interesting model - no idea whatsoever why Dad would have had it. It came with some ammo, so I'll probably take it to the range fairly soon. I'll take a picture later.
