Mike Read PITS 2 review

#1

Post by Nemo3000 »

Hello,

Image

The PITS 2 is one of the most intriguing SlipIts collaboration Spyderco has ever produced.
This first glimpse — packed with photos and a link to Mike Read’s Alien video — is only a "part one".
Now that I’m carrying the PITS 2 as my main EDC, part two is already forming in my mind. ;-)
In short: it’s a true user and an outstanding push-cutter right out of the box.
And not the easiest folder to open but, for once, I don't care. It is a pleasure to carry and use. ;)

And for those who wants to take a look seven years ago:

This was my glimpse at the first PITS (1):

And also who it bites me:

The PITS1 is an excellent hard use Slipit, but I genuinely prefer the PITS2: the geometry is better, and so is the M398 blade steel. I’ve already used M398 on the Roadie XL and the Metropolitan, and it turned out to be far more ‘forgiving’ than I expected. I initially thought it would be brittle — especially after snapping about half a millimeter off the tip of my Roadie XL — but in daily use it has proven to be an excellent alloy that also takes to stropping remarkably well.
I also prefer the PITS2’s blade shape, its ergonomics, and its much larger choil (the PITS1’s choil was a real hot spot for my index).
The more I use the PITS2, the more I find myself genuinely appreciating it.

As a regular user — and lover — of the UKPK and the Urban, my go-to knives for Paris (blue) and London (red), the PITS 2 has now earned its place both in my heart and in my pocket.

Excuse my french, but the second part of the review could be "The Alien is growing on me" ?
;-)
