Ed Schempp's Persian; With Pics!

#1

Post by pjrocco »

Greetings,

I got home today to see my new Persian in my mailbox. I have to say, I'm very impressed. The Persian sprung straight into the top 10.

Due to DAYWALKER's raving about this knife, I had to get my hands on one. Thanks Chad! :)

The fit and finish on the Persian is fantastic. Sits in the hand perfectly. This one is going into the collection until the smaller version hits the streets. I have a feeling the new Persian will give the Lil' Temp and Calypso Jr. a run for my favoritve EDC. Time will tell. :)

Here are some pics. Keep in mind, these pics do not do this knife justice. Sorry for the poor quality, I was loosing daylight.

Enjoy!

Aloha Rock!

"Raving"? :p Glad you can now experience the "rave" for yourself! As a designer, (well, some people think I can design :o ) it is always a challenge to make such a curvy design fit mostly all hand sizes while having the ability to be held in everyway. I don't know how Ed did it, but he succeeded with this one big time!

Thanks for the great pics everytime and congrats on your C83!!! Er...keep an eye on it though!

Gotta agree if this blade were a woman she'd have all the right curves.

I've had mine coming up on two years now and still cannot get over how much value I got for the price...cannot wait for the Kriss to see if they are like cousins.

In a way, I can't blame you, but it is almost a sin to have one and not experience the pleasure of using it. Making a knife that combines beauty and brawn as smoothly and as well as the Persian is no mean feat and really needs to be "felt" to be appreciated.

I agree with you 100% on this one, Deacon. The lockup on this knife is so solid and positive, you just know it's going to stay secure. Then you get a grip on it, and WOW, no matter what grip you try, it all feels awesome! After reading the Persian post on Thursday, I was inspired to break the Persian out yesterday and give her a ride. I didn't have a real need for it yesterday, but I decided to shred a cardboard chunk while taking a smoke break at work yesterday, and watching it rain outside. That poor cardboard didn't have a chance! I was amazed at the precision of the cuts that it made, and the consistency and size of each slice was almost identical from cut to cut. It made me eyeball the knife again, as if to say, "WTH? Did I just really do that? I wasn't even trying that hard!"

This is one of those models that must be handled and used- Man I love this micarta... The clip on this one is great as well, and positioned with perfection.

Great shots of my favorite knife Rock. I've never actually cut anything with it but sure have handled it a lot. My intention is to buy another soon to keep NIB and use the other. It's a stunner IMO.

I couldn't agree more, the Persian is perfect..er except.
Most of us have certain preferances we look for in a knife. One of mine is G10 scales for MBC use. I have, or have had, Emersons and Striders and just grew accustomed to a handle that gives you really good purchase. I have also traded off or sold many good production and customs that just fell short of what made me feel comfortable while working with it.
With that said, along comes the Persian. The first time I held it I thought it was one of the nicest designs I have ever had in my hand. The SS bolster and Micarta really make it look sweet and are very pocket friendly. When I started to train with it though, I became frustrated. I knew what I felt was the only thing it was lacking. I purchased a new one and sent it off to be modified. It is on it's way to me now and I hope to share some pics when it gets here.
I know I mentioned other knife companies here on the Spyforum but my opinion is still that pound for pound, Spyderco, is the best commercial knife producer on the planet. Their combination of quality, fair price and diverse design innovation keeps them on top.

Congrats on the knife Rock, and thanks for the pics. That Persian sure is a sweet piece. such elegant, graceful lines.
First they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not stand up, because I was not a Trade Unionist.
