Lil Native Lightweight

What are people impressions this far? Does the finger choil feel cramped?

I like the SAK tinker size and this model is pretty close to that. I like a small pocket knife for around the house. My other consideration is the Metropolitan.

My impression is that its a more neutral equivalent to the dragonfly- both in blade shape and handle ergos. Grip area length feels about the same/more confidence inspiring.

I have average sized hands and have no issues with feeling cramped. Choil dimensions are the same or very close to the same as those of the dragonfly, UKPK, and Chaparral. If anything, larger than the PM2 choil.

On my example lockup and build quality is great.

This has become my default super lightweight/small (but capable) knife.

It works great for my medium-sized hands. I like it better than the Dragonfly because it has a thicker handle for better control.

My only issue is that it doesn't come in orange or coyote.

Noted.

The advantage of an FRN variation is, color and steel options.

Maybe a salt version down the line?

I’d be interested in a Spy27 version, but I’ll absolutely 100% buy a salt version if it’s in Magnacut.

Sure looks like a promising platform for more variations. Can't commit to too many until I've had a chance to try at least one, but a standard leaf shape MC salt and something wharncliffe are at least two versions I feel quite confident are low risk commitments.

The choil on the Lil Native is exactly the same as the Native 5, so if you’re familiar with that one, it can give somewhat of a baseline for what to expect with the Lil Native.

I’m a big fan of the Lil Native in general. It’s one of my favorite knives from Spyderco and the LW has proven to be no exception.

It really lives up to its Lightweight moniker because it just disappears in pocket. Definitely a good choice for carrying around the house.

I like the G10 Backlock Lil Native but the hourglass clip feels a little disproportionate to the rest of the knife. The switch to a wire clip was a very welcome change to me. It’s one of the reasons why I like the G10 Compression lock Lil Native so much, so I was glad to see the LW adopt it as well.

The G10 Lil Native is certainly no slouch but thinner blade stock on the LW feels great in use. No issues with BD1N, sharpens up easily and is relatively corrosion resistant. Plenty good enough for normal EDC use, at least. (I think a Salt version is inevitable, just a matter of time)

I would have preferred if the Lil Native LW omitted the jimping. (Choil and spine) I find it to be the cause of a hotspot more than anything else. To me the Lil Native already feels secure enough in hand to not need it but this is very subjective.

I also wish the satin version didn’t have the tumbled blade finish because it softens the edge of the Spyderhole, removing some traction. I’ve noticed my thumb slipping out if I’m not so deliberate while opening it. The DLC model seems to remedy that a bit.

I will post some comparison photos to the Metropolitan later.

I ordered the all black PE this morning and would love to see it offered as a salt in orange w/DLC blade 🙏
