This is by far the worst Spyderco I have ever owned. I have a sage 1 and 2 sage 5's and they are awesome. Along with about 20 other Spyderco's that i love. When i got this 6, the action was non existent. Barely moved...just gritty. If there is a quality control dept then they missed this one. What a piece of junk. Honestly, its a piece of crap. I cannot believe I received this in a Spyderco knife. So I tried to check the washers, they looked shot. All scratched and deep grooves. Like they had sand in there or something. All torn up. I tried to polish them etc. but they were too far gone. I didn't intend to remove the second indent but it just flew out as soon as I took off the scale. I guess I should have just sent it back immediately. For 300....what a joke

I never did hear back from DanM. Funny how I have a hard time believing his comments? Why would a person do that? Just post negatives and not follow up?

I had my Sage 6 s90v tuned to perfection after removing the detent ball and had been loving it. Then, I lost it at the range. Funny part is, I know I was only ever between my car and the spot where I was sighting in. I spent about an hour scouring that 20 foot stretch. It's all just gravel and concrete there so nowhere for it to disappear or fall into a crack. There was one other group of people there (a dad and his kids), so I'm almost positive one of them ended up with my s90v sprint. Asked them if they saw anything when they came in and of course nothing.

Devastated. I was wearing a new shirt for the first time and the seam must have snagged on the clip is the only thing I can think of. Never lost a knife before like that so of course it's my favorite and most expensive knife and one I'll likely never be able to get again :(

I'll eventually buy the regular Sage 6 but I'm still in mourning, lol.
Crap! That really sucks!🤬 I doubt whoever found it even knows what a gem they have.😠

Yeah, it is weird. There seems to be an epidemic of people doing this lately, and their failure to follow up really discredits their stories.

I currently have 10 Spyderco knives, sold 2 others and lost one, and they were all excellent quality.

After reading through these posts I am confident that if I ever have an issue, Spyderco will make it right.

I mean, jeez, to hear from the founder? Unheard of!

My Sage 6 S90V is the best of all my Sages… once the second detent ball was removed.

My personal wish is that all Sages graduate to button compression lock and that we get a version in G10 or CF when Magnamax goes live outside of Mules.

I really don't get the removing of the detent ball. I had a Smock for a few years and never found the need to do such a thing. Even when I swapped the scales, it was super smooth as it was. I'm expecting the same from my Sage 6 that will be arriving tomorrow!

If someone is trolling, and doesn't respond...doesn't that justify removing the post? I don't want to sound paranoid, but how can we be sure it's not a campaign organized by a competitor? I dunno, I tend to look at post count, to determine how seriously to take a complaint.

With full paranoia, you bet! LOL

If TKO posts a complaint with 13 thousand posts and who-knows-how-many-knives, I'd take it seriously!

I have both Sage 6's (regular production and sprint) on hand at the moment and they are both impressively smooth straight out of the box. The action is great - smooth and consistent during both opening and closing. They can both be drop shut with smooth control, pressing only the button without touching the blade. Same experience with the Smocks I own too.

Removing the second detent gives the blade a free fall drop shut action before a proper break in and also makes closed blade retention weaker. 🤷‍♂️ Other than that it doesn't add a functional advantage, so I think it's mostly just a preference thing.

Yeah, every time I hit up the SFO, I basically have to hold both the Sage 6 and Canis just...because lol. I've held probably 8-10 Sage 6 variants and they are all consistently remarkable. The Sage 6 is one of the best models ever produced by Spyderco. The first time my son and I saw the Sage 6 in both S30V and S90V earlier this year when they first released, we played with them both for a while. The Sage 6 90V was awesome, but the feel and action of *that* particular S30V version in the case was one of the very best knives I ever held. It was that good. Somebody really made out when they grabbed that one. Same with a Canis that I felt at one point. Just absolutely world class, those two (and yes I've hand plenty others in my hands, just something special about those two). The best one we've ever had in our hands was a Para 3 15V G10 model, and I bought it on the spot. It is now my son's. It is right next to me right now. Picking it up and feeling the action...still the best Spyderco I've ever felt. I keep wishing all of mine were that good and most come close but still no dice haha.

Image

It doesn't mean that there aren't a few let out of the box that shouldn't be, most manufacturing has a 1.5%-3% defect rate anyway, so it is sort of baked in, and those knives are still probably 'good', and especially if the mothership has a chance to make them right, most can be saved.

What OP did was in bad form.

I have bought more than just a few new Spyderco knives in the last year, and I have yet to get one like what was described above.

Then there is the issue of not contacting Spyderco and just get them on board with you, if you can't address something yourself... the warranty on our knives is made to use for things like this.

This guy chose not to use the warranty on his own, if this person ever actually bought said knife. This all sounds more like a fishing expedition to me, or the person is dumb as a box of rocks plain and simple.

Yes, that might be to direct and to the point, but what this person did from their own admission here, with a knife that was supposedly so bad, they chose to basically ignore the most important thing, the killer warranty these knives come with.

Person like this for whatever reason doesn't need to own a shape pencil, let alone an awesome knife like a Sage 6... Rant off.

Good grief what a joke.
