Work in progress for the third folder.

I wanted to challenge myself a bit more on this one. I already upgraded some stuff, mainly the detent which is now perfect. Before that I think the detent ball was too centered in the blade hole, making it possible to create a little wiggle in the blade even if this was not detent lash. Now it constantly puts tension on the blade trying to shut it close.

The real challenge is making my first bolsters ever, and making it well. I don't like straight juxtaposition, so I went for dovetail and then I'll contour everything. It's not fun to do with only a drill press and a belt grinder but it seems to be going well. they fit together perfectly.

I'll still need to find a way to fix the scales down without creating a void next week-end ! For the bolsters I'll certainly glue some placement pins inside of them that simply go through the liners.

PS : I've sent an e-mail to Sal to ask if it was ok for me to use a round hole since I am gonna submit it at the Amsterdam Meet. If I ever learn that it's an issue, I'll modify it.

Thanks for sharing the build Robin! Who knows, in a few years I might be buying the Spyderco Ramonade sprint run!

It would be my honor !
Here is a short video on where I'm at at the moment. I am gonna make the primary grind today and the shaping will continue afterwards 😁

Blade ground, swedge ground (need to make it perfectly symmetrical by hand, time consuming but I prefer to do it that way to be sure). I'm happy to have been able to make the bottom of the swedge follow the original blade shape I chose, before adding material for that very swedge.

Thanks @Jim Malone ! I wanted to challenge myself for the third one and it is a challenge indeed. Dovetail bolsters are easy to make on paper but I've had trouble to make the bolsters and scales screw onto the liners properly without creating a gap. I've learned a lot already thanks to this project, and it is not close to be done.

I will ! Maybe not my second one because I plan to sell it, haven't said it to anyone yet so it's still with me, but the first one, fixed blade and third will be with me for sure :)

Late night update. Most of the shaping is done, it is a question of polishing now, and seeing if I wanna use a brush finish or try anodizing the bolsters and liners.

Then, choosing how to create linerlock and spydiehole clearance. This is very nice for my first kinda small knife !

Thanks @Paul Ardbeg & @Bolster !

It's almost finished, need to work on the symmetry of the contouring a bit bit other than that, shaping is done. I always make a handbrush satin but the gnarly belt satin is fun too !

What do you guys think ? I could also try to anodised the titanium but I like grey, When i'll own a sandblaster I'll use very fine glass beads to make it cooler but for this one I kinda like this configuration.

@Manixguy@1994 @SaltyCaribbeanDfly @apollo I'd like to have your opinion too, means a lot !

Belt Satin it is @Bolster and @Paul Ardbeg ! I added my logo and a spot for the thumb on the lockbar, which mimics the spydiehole. Imma stop there, I don't own something to beadblast the titanium (yet).

Thanks a lot @Manixguy@1994 , I'm really happy to be able to create stuff from A to Z, I did not think I could for a looooong time. It's both a relief and a joy !

I'll make "showcase" pictures of the Precision and then we'll just have to wait for the Amsterdam Meet to show it to everyone and ask Eric what he thinks !

Here's a disassembly view of the Precision. I'm going to make one without the Spydiehole next :)

Image

I'm working on an order for the fourth one, same clothes, different style ! Not named yet. Mechanism is already done, dovetail bolsters and scales too. The grind is almost done.

I'm trying something, I have not uploaded this video to youtube, maybe it can be read from instagram !

There has been some work done. The spine will be crowned, finish handbrush then stonewash and/or micro beadblasting (70mic). There will be a clip.
