Compression Lock Models with Back Lock
I figured this could be an insightful discussion to see interest. Which compression lock models, if any, would you like to see available with a back lock?
I'll start with two:
- Canis
- Military

Re: Compression Lock Models with Back Lock
Personally, I'd be fine with replacing all compression locks with back locks, but that's just me. Realistically, it's more likely to go the other way since comp locks make better fidget toys. The Police4 is pretty close to a back lock Military, and the Rockjumper was very close to a back lock Canis.

I agree on the locks. Personally, I would have rather seen a stop pin integrated into the back lock, ala Triad, versus the compression lock.yablanowitz wrote: ↑Fri Oct 03, 2025 8:31 amPersonally, I'd be fine with replacing all compression locks with back locks, but that's just me. I'm not one to fidget. I put my knives to use. Maybe some people have to much free time on their hands.

Re: Compression Lock Models with Back Lock
I, for one, am no longer interested in fidgeting, although I certainly understand the compulsion. Most of the knives I've purchased in the past year have been backlocks or fixies. One of them, a LeafJumper SE in K390, has become my favorite box destroyer. But to fidget with it? Nope.yablanowitz wrote: ↑Fri Oct 03, 2025 8:31 amPersonally, I'd be fine with replacing all compression locks with back locks, but that's just me. Oldest: 1974 Buck 110.
Newest: Temperance, gray FRN, Cruwear SE
Knives owned: Too many, yet always finding another.

None. I don't fidget with my knives but I sure like them to pop open when I need them. The back lock puts so much drag on the blade that doesn't happen.
If anyone wants a really stiff compression lock just track down a Szabo.

Re: Compression Lock Models with Back Lock
I've come to prefer the mid back lock over everything else. I even enjoy fidgeting with them more than the compression lock.
A lightweight manix back lock would be a dream.

All of them because I'm left handed not a fan of the compression lock?
None of them because I like models with other locks more than I like models with compression locks?
The exception would be the PM2. It's a lovely knife. I have it in the LH version and it's nice. I also have it in the RH version with a button that I installed, and it's GREAT.
If I was right handed and in love with a right handed compression lock model, I'd be yelling, "Sal! Make this knife in LH so I can add a button and make it as good as it can be!"
Re: Compression Lock Models with Back Lock
Any non button compression lock knives that use smooth scales.
The Shaman in particular with its contoured smooth scales would benefit from the back lock or some grippier scales(like the peel ply g10 on the manix g10)
The more secure the grip when closing the knife the better (and safer) it is for the consumer.

Just one more knife...

I'll fidget my knives at my desk at work. That being said, I prefer back locks.civilian_g10 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 03, 2025 8:53 amI agree on the locks. Backlocks are great until you have to disassemble the knife then compression lock wins each and every time.

Re: Compression Lock Models with Back Lock
We've asked for a Manix 2 LW back lock for years, but nothing has happened, yet. I would be first in line for this one.

Re: Compression Lock Models with Back Lock
I agree with the "all of them" sentiment as I won't buy another compression lock, but a backlock Shaman would be an immediate buy for me.
Re: Compression Lock Models with Back Lock
The Mid-Back is my favorite, but the Comp is a close second. The Lil' Native was available in both Comp & Mid-Back for a while, but the Mid-back has gone disco now so I assume it didn't catch on enough.
I kinda feel that each model has the best lock for it right now, but if I could get a Mid-Back Bodacious I would snap it up. Otherwise I'm good.

Re: Compression Lock Models with Back Lock
I really like the compression lock although I've never had any issues with a mid or back lock either. Getting it open and keeping it open has always been more important than getting it closed.

Re: Compression Lock Models with Back Lock
Are votes to the contrary also allowed here? I'd love all the large Seki models with compression locks instead of backlocks. The same with the native chief. I love the designs and just accept the lock. With compression locks I'd love them through and through
